Coming up in NeoTweaks V2.0:
  • New simple loading screen, replacing the V1.0 one.
  • "Stealth" aircraft, darkened skins ala current Spec Ops helicopters etc.
  • Lowered brightness of nation overlay to non-eye-destroying levels.
  • Re-designed starting base to be slightly more defensible.
  • Complete weapon stat overhaul.
  • Modified weapon skills.
  • Reworked research tree.
NOTE: NeoTweaks is basically a modified version of the game to my own personal preferences, you may not like some of the changes made so use at your own discretion! :)

Have you already sorted the mod and just need the sound files to complete it? Or are you waiting on the files to test it out? You could always look at recording some of the online text-to-speech convertors to give yourself sample files for testing which can be replaced by the real thing later :)

If it's going to be a mod, why not give people a male/female choice? ;)

This is definitely something I'd use in my game though, so I shall keep an eye on this!

*sigh* Please delete this, I have once again been a moron.

The bugs regarding nations had to do with me editing a couple of images in an attempt to tone down the nation overlay glow brightness. Though I succeeded, I darkened a couple of unnecessary images that seem to be linked to the game figuring out what lands where.

I think I shall stop reporting bugs cause I'm obviously an idiot, and just enjoy the game :P

Maybe change it to Little Italy? Common enough name for Italian parts of other cities so it might not be as confusing  :)

This is based on the 27th June nightly build:

1 - Every mission is displaying as (No nation) except Terror missions.
2 - Nation happiness is not changing at all.
3 - One mission in Russia pulled up the map "Italy"... not sure if that's a bug or just a peculiar name for a map.
4 - No sign of Electromagnetic Rifle research at start of game, possible just changes to research tree?

Last night I was playing with the 25th June build and saved a couple of games. When I loaded up the game this morning both of them were missing in the "Load" option of Full Campaign. I assumed I'd buggered something up with my fiddling or it might be something to do with having 2.4, 23/06-2.5, and 25/06-2.5 installed, so I wiped all installations and downloaded 26/06-2.5. I played for an hour or so earlier today and saved two games.

Just loaded up the game and once again the save games are missing. Bug or idiocy on my part? :P


Oops.

Once I loaded up my mod the savegames appeared again. Didn't realise they didn't show up in the list if you forget to load up the mod you were using with them! My apologies.

I've added a few simple mods to change the ranks and insignia to a few of the more recognisable national armies, for those who like that sort of thing. Personally I enjoy being a multinational organisation, but I know some people like the familiar insignia :)

The army insignia mods are only supported by 2.5 Dev, as creating two different lots of zip files to support 2.4 when it will be replaced at some point seemed like wasted effort. I can still supply versions that work with 2.4 if you message me but will not be "publically" supporting that version.

Thanks H-Hour! I've updated the original post to add instructions for 2.5 Dev. I'll keep following the games progress (obviously, since I like playing it!) and when 2.5 becomes the stable version I'll edit out the instructions for 2.4 :)

I've also added in the Pilot, Worker, and Scientist ranks to the original post as I forgot those last night.

This mod became incompatible with the game and has been discontinued. Unfortunately I do not have the time to work on a new version, but many thanks to those who tried out the original mod and left suggestions!

Taking on Kildor's comment about not having the rank images based on the logo design, I've been working with various ideas and played around with this for the six noncom ranks:



The slashes use a similar colour and style as the spears in the logo to keep a little continuity in design, and the bars are reminiscent of current military ranks from various countries.

The officer ranks are a bit more elaborate but this time use a duplicate of the shield ring to keep the continuity instead:

And in a flurry of creativity today, based on the previous one with semi-transparent background, I've added rivets to the outer ring to try and make it more shield-like:



EDIT: Realised I unintentionally made the outer ring brighter with the addition of the rivets, so edited in a new version with the ring roughly the same brightness as before.

I wasn't trying to step on anyone's toes and suggest replacing the current logo, this was just meant as fan art... though I am flattered at the suggestion. The logo image file I work from consists of the following layers, from top to bottom:

1 - PHALANX name.
2 - Shield ring/circle.
3 - Shield drop shadow.
4 - Continents.
5 - Sea.
6 - Shield background.
7 - Green spear.
8 - Blue spear.

This means providing any individual element for people to play with is no problem at all :) While I work in GIMP, it can save as PSD so compatibility shouldn't be an issue.

Funnily enough, looking at that made me wonder what would happen if you eliminated the shield background so the continents and sea become semi-transparent, and I ended up with this which I quite like too:

Ok, fiddled around with the main logo a little based on feedback. First we have the "better spearheads" asked for:



Then we have a "modernist" take on the spears with stylized slashes in the place of actual spears, which I like very much but only works on a dark background with those particular colours:



I've had one or two ideas for rank images that aren't based on the logo, so once I've had a go I'll post some images.
