3 and 4 still have a three round burst and it pretty much functions as an assault rifle there.
Though, I found some fluff claiming it has a four round burst but I never saw that one happening.

It's great and all but it's getting turned into a full on sniper in 2.5.
I'll miss sending three bolts into a harvester chalk full of Ortnoks.

Only downside is that you're perfectly capable of missing your intended target and still hitting the civilian behind it.

...and it is not like the aliens that you do engage live to tell about you having better tech...

Them not coming back at all tells enough. Not to mention it's not really hard to have another ship or two in orbit with a camera. They do, after all, rule the highest of grounds.

Range. They got a massive range, from what I remember.

Gameplay is pretty much piss easy as it is. If you ignore the fact that the game won't spawn a single UFO in sight of your base untill half the planet surrenders.
Having to build your own versions of their guns wouldn't actually be all that bad.

Sorry to butt in, but I always thought that maybe an inteligent enemy such as an alien species that uses anti matter engines would have forseen humans using their weapons, and thus devise a fingerprint or dna check system to apply on the wielder.

Systems that could probably be broken after the device is fully examined by the professional staff in the lab.

Well, looking at the chips...you feel they're too big?

Well, if I had the slightest capacity for doing this, I'd try to make the head smaller relative to the shaft and I'd ditch the parts that are pointing backwards. It's nice when an arrow sticks inside and can't be pulled out but when you do that with a spear, it's a bit of a hassle.

But since I don't, I think I'll just lob these few pics of what I'd be going for and hope you can make use of them.
There's also a few more from where I got the first one, if you feel like it.

I like the overall appearance and am as such, reduced to nitpicking.
I wonder if you could replace the heads on the arrows with something more spearlike.
After all, the organisation is called "Phalanx."

If you send twos, you can have one as a bait while the other shoots it down. No damage whatsoever.

Of course, you can do that with fighters as well.

Is armour even worth it?
Sure you have more armour on your craft but good luck catching up with anything faster than a scout, which, hilariously, doesn't warrant it anyway.
Sure, a Saracen might have some use with it but I somehow doubt the increase in life expectancy would actually provide any meaningful bonus with the things its hunting.

Indeed. Looks rather Kadeshi too.

Staying on topic is kind of overrated. Especially when the original question is answered.
Hell, someone might even think of something new to stick into the game in one of these talks.

Discussion / Re: Accuracy of pistols
« on: June 16, 2012, 07:19:44 pm »
I feel that's partially due to the peculiar naming conventions for alien equipment in the game.
At least in 3 and 4, plasma pistols feel like some sort of plasma carbine than an actual pistol. Especially due to the range.
I tend to replace shotguns with them though that sprouts a few other problems with damage types.
