Windows / Re: Map Files for Phil (/base/maps as of Revision 25053)
« on: July 08, 2009, 10:49:12 am »
I've been doing it for about 2 years as an EMT.  Basic Life support Instructor with AED,  Look up EMT-Basic and you'll see what i can do in the civillian world.

In the Army i am also Combat Life Saver Certified so in my army uniform(not my civilian one) I also get to play with IV's and needle chest decompression for Pnuemo/Hemo-thorax.

Been in the army for going on 4 years now, Sergeant working on becoming a Staff Sergeant in our armies Chaplain Corp.  I have about a year and a half left on my enlistment.  I will probably do another 2 years.

Eloz PhilRoi,

I am in the midst of sending the attachment to u. Its zipped up (~11MB after archiving the 41MB files).

U will need 7zip to unzip it (and it might take a while since i used ultra compression ratio resulting in more maths algorithms).

Let me know if it did not arrives at ur email ok? I've sent it to: XphilroiX@XgmailX.XcomX yupz, w/o all the Xs.

PS: Give it abt 10 mins or so from now (11.37am +8GMT). Its still uploading, and i thnk it might take another bit of time to refresh such a file onto the server, since i am in asia and u r probably in the states.
odie you rock!

actually you and I are on the same continent.  I'm in afghanistan,  My internet is via Satellite and i think it hits the hardwire Internet in hong kong.   so you and I are netwise not as far as you think.

that directory passes SVN check.  no more crashing.  I managed to update several hundred megs more before it crapped out in base\sound\ambience.  are you willing to shoot me that one?

ok i give up.   on my crappy 8KB/s DL connection i can't take the time to DL the whole thing in one go.   can someone zip up base\models\aircraft and either post it where i can get it or you can try and email it to me at XphilroiX@XgmailX.XcomX  (take out the X's)  though I don't know if gmail will let a file that big  go through as an attachemnt.

just make sure that you include the hidden SVN folders in the zip.   I am hoping i can manually update these files and get SVN to think they are ok and pass them over.  I'll need the updated SVN folders to convince them of that.  just adding the file dosen't work because TSVN dosen't have SVN information for the file and so tried to download a copy from the trunk and replace it.

bah,  I have yet to sucessully get a full checkout.   Keeps crapping out mid update,  refusing to update certain files.  Or TSVN's latest trick is to just outright crash!   yikes!   I've tried to find out how to fix the specif error i get and everything suggests it's server side.  but i'm the only one having issues...

ah well.....
all i can think to try and do is see if someone will zip up the troublesome directories and include the hidden SVN dir's when they do it. and then they can either drop it on my web hosting or email it to me or something....

all i can think to try.

Artwork / Re: Soldier Uniform Colors for new solider models

looks good.

as far as being camo that soldiers would never wear.  seems to me that its purely a cosmetic function in the game.  The uniforms have no real impact on game mechanics.

I personally think that being able to give very obviously different colored uniforms to different weapon load outs would be very helpful:
snipers wear green
bean(grenades) tossers wear red
assaulters wear blue
etc....
helps me get a quick idea of where my weapon systems are at quickly.

I'm currently looking into developing a sense of fuzzy logic for the AI.  as someone pointed out in my research into ai coding techniques,  hard rules lead to exploitable behaviors in the AI.  However,  having the AI capable of doing diffrent things in the same situation can lead to save/reload exploits.
decisions, decisions, decisions......

LOL,

some suggested seach terms for digital cammo patterns

CADPAT
MARPAT (desert and Woodland patterns)
UCP (universal Camoflauge pattern) - works well as an urban
the us airforce digital tigerstripe is a hoot

Also take a peek at some some non-digital camo patterns
Multi-cam by Crye
The aussie Desert is a hoot. (purple? WTF!)
several of the flectarns look good

I am re-vamping the Human/Alien AI right now.  Yes in the future there will be armed types(police/military/ gun nut) around.  yes they will show many diffrent types of realistic behaviors.  No need to beat this horse.   it's dead.  We are just waiting for the next version to be delivered when i can get some time to work on it.  I'm in a war zone so free time to work on it is sometimes in short supply.

Feature Requests / Re: 25mm Gas Grenade
« on: June 24, 2009, 10:54:06 am »
Logically, really good idea. Gameplay wise, very BAD idea. Why dont we just give you an Easy button thats better than the auto-mission?

uhm, take it a step further.   Gas an area that large and you run the risk of killing many civillians with asthma and COPD (another breathing disorder common among elderly.)   Aliens killing humans is bad enough,  but humans killing humans even if trying to kill aliens is really really bad.

the Russians actually tried this awhile back in a famous hostage stand-off in a school.  Gassed the whole school and stormed it...   it didn't turn out well, many fatalities and more then a few were directly related to the gas used. and the government took a huge beating in the court of public opinion because of it.

i've tried at least 50 times over the last 5 days.   what i am finding online suggests it is a server side error.  ah well,  i'll  figure something out.

if i try deleting the DIR and redoing the update i get:

added     C:\UFOAISTUFF\ufoai\base\models\aircraft\inter_starchaser
added     C:\UFOAISTUFF\ufoai\base\models\aircraft\inter_starchaser\starchaser.md2
then the same error.
