I like open track 2 a lot. Starts like a soviet era workers song with some pitch bends on the vocals, then goes metal.

track 1 is good. i think one of the instrument sounds (metallic hiss) isnt quite right. the one that comes in first after the phasering throb. i can't think quite what would make the sound better.

its nice to hear a longer snatch of real instrument. you can hear the frets on the real guitar.

it would have been nice to get the option of just dowloading the compressed versions.

I reckon it would be best if different accents could be done by people actually representing the different nationalities. if radio-type distortion is going to be applied anyway, then it does not matter if the original recording is high quality. any cheap microphone and a computer should do. it would be good if the radio noise was applied consistently, perhaps one person could do that to all of the samples.

i'd have a go at putting on a posh english english voice.

destructavator: if i did would you be ok to normalize the volume and apply distortion?

alex: you seem to be a leading sound contributor, do you have any thoughts?

coders: would this be worth coding in your opinion? i guess you would have to add a field describing the nationality of each soldier. it would be no good if the same soldier spoke with a Polish accent one round and an American the next.

#1 great idea. it is frustrating to sneak up behind someone and not be able to finish them off.

#2. melee reaction: another top suggestion. (note to devs - if you implement this, make sure there is no reaction fire with the medikit - that would put a dampener on one's day).

when this code gets rewritten, how hard will it be to allow more than 8 actors per team?

if its just a question of the number of keys, you could easily go up to 10 by using 9 and 0 too. perhaps add another 10 by having [shift]-1 selecting soldier number 11 etc.

anyway, what are the chances of getting a bigger squad to play with?

I think that in UFO:EU you could have 14 soldiers in a big elerium-powered troop transporting plane, and I always enjoyed the big missions. [comes over misty-eyed] great days...

i think i'm right in saying that currently the only way to use a hospital is to click on it.

the GUI should go all one way or the other.

[1] cycle target for current. i agree this would be a nice feature. i have got into using v for this sort of thing.

the system you suggest might cause problems if relied on two heavily. for example, a soldier can kill an alien that he/she can't actually see with a grenade.

[2] e. oops, sounds like a good suggestion.

[3] i think the devs are working hard on this issue now. (selling more stuff quicker etc).

They are excellent effects. Crisp and electronic: the perfect accompaniment to any HUD.

my favourite is 1. with perhaps a lower pitched sound (i think 4 is best) for menus closing.

just to confirm.

The second broken sav I reported in this thread happenned when
-I had no aircraft out
-I had one base and one dropship.

So I think there are more critters out there to be eliminated.

my dropship was in the air for that broken save.

i got another broken savegame, but i don't have the log for when i saved it. i will start from the last good save and see how things go.

I spent some time listening to Destructavator's work. (which tlh2000 uploaded to the patch tracker on sf). Here's my tuppence.

voices1_1 - they all sound like aliens getting hit to me.

all the 2 samples
alien screams don't benefit from the extra distortion
soldiers voices do sound better with the radio effect added

a couple of the samples have crackles on that don't sound like radio noise. all of the speech announcing a new alien has been spotted is too calm - I think it would be better whispered in fear.

all of the deaths and grunts sound like they are aliens getting it. I quite like the death rattle in The Two Towers on PS2, its quite a soft breath as your guy breaths his last.

The game would benefit from some vocals. I don't know how hard this would be to code. I reckon comments from your soldiers should be quite intermittent, otherwise they get too repetitive (hmm, I think that's a tautology).

I would really like to hear voices in a variety of world accents. This would lend a load of style to the game.
