weapon skills improve shot precision. (width of Gaussian spread depends on accuracy and the weapon class specific skill)

TU cost for weapon use cannot be reduced.

Artwork / Re: New alien race ideas - guidelines before starting?
« on: September 19, 2008, 11:57:07 am »
while I agree that we always need more aliens to kill. It is a difficult first project. Also, the more alien types we have, the harder it is to maintain. For example we need walking, crouching, death, crouch walking animations. hopefully, in the future we will also need climbing ladder and lying down animations.

maybe start with an easier modeling task.

I like FPS too, however, I am only a minion. I have put less effort into this game than mattn, who is strongly against. So, its days are numbered (at least in its current form).

ceilings missing is a map optimisation (set to nodraw). i think the first-person view will be changed or removed in later versions, so this cannot be seen

Coding / Re: About updating from svn
« on: September 15, 2008, 07:21:16 pm »
your working copy has versioned and non-versioned files. the *.map files will be changed when you checkout or update your working copy.

when you compile them you get *.bsp files (which ufo uses). these files are not versioned, so svn update will not change them. hope that's clear!

so if you can't be bothered to recompile the maps you can keep using the old compiled ones. this works until a smart-arse dev introduces new maps or renames some or whatever. then you will get an error in the ufo console about a missing bsp (or something). then you must recompile the maps.

i will endeavor to fix the batch file next time i boot windows.

as a workaround (if you never try to make your own maps) delete the prefabs directory.

expect many bugs!

but now they are worth reporting, as wilminator is spending his time on it.

I suggest that the coders would be happy to implement lying down - as soon as a 3D artist arrives who can create all the necessary animations for our current models. [tumble - weed drifts gently across the shot to the distant sound wind whistling on the rocks]

geever: i think I hear an echo

indeed it is. (any easy thing to test, particularly for short range weapons).

you might find this useful

@sticky
the pathfinding code has been totally rewritten. that bug has gone, and a load of new ones appeared.
seriously, we hope the new stuff will simplify the process of map making and clear a load of old bugs.

@Ilvi
as a workaround: do not use them. they confer no advantage atm, anyhow.

gtkradiant is a map editor. the project has been using multi-purpose map editors. mattn has been working on adapting gtkradiant to do more specific ufo stuff. this is not complete yet.
