Coding / Com_Printf() questions

a few questions on Com_Printf. I looked at Com_DPrintf, which just calls Com_Printf, after checking you are running in dev mode.

1. I find that format strings like "%4.1f" do not work. "%f" does.
2. It seems that i can only have 2 (or maybe 3) %f in one call
3. It seems I can't use 2 Com_Printf calls consecutively.

help.

Tactics / use of stun rod

equip a soldier with a belt full of flashbangs and a stun rod in hand. wait until you are reasonably sure there is only one specimen in the vicinity. use flashbang. run up to foe and use stun rod

The stun rod does not hold much charge (ammo) and you can give more stun per shot if you use single charges.

you can give more stun per TU if you use double charges.

save 14 TU. this will allow you to retrieve a flashbang (2 TU) and roll it (12 TU). next round continue poking your foe with rod until he is stunned.

take foe home and observe.   :)

i am trying to get a friend involved with ufo:ai. he is mainly a mac user at home (PPC chip). i gather (irc channel last night) that some mac users might be required for beta-testing soon.

anyhow. i intend to draw this thread to his attention, so please leave a any notes, requests instructions here....

i made a weapon skills table.

i wrote some code to parse the ufo files and make the table. i plan to run it again when the current data is superseded. nice and easy to maintain.  :)

i felt the wiki was currently a bit confusing - an out of date collection of plans. (tachyons anyone?).

i plan to do some more handy reference tables to compare weapon stats, as a tool for weapon rebalancing (and reference guide). any requests for stats welcome.

look at me! i can code too! (though not as well as matt...)

split research of alien weapons into use and replication.

you would research use of plasma pistols first. phalanx scientists would get confident enough in operation of the gun for soldiers to use them in the field. but, your engineers would not know enough about the gun to make new ones (or ammo). you would have to research replication of plasma pistols first.

this sounds plausible: it maust be much harder to make something than use it.

i think it would create a tactically interesting early campaign phase, where you could only used salvaged alien tech. you would have to be careful with every plasma grenade.
