Tactics / Re: Cannon fodder

To be precise, the TU bonus is granted if carrying little enough, which is only possible when not wearing armor (for recruits at least). Well, my valuable soldiers do wear armor, but in case of the basic armor it's basically only a weight object (training strength) and a quick mean of distinguishing cannon fodder from valuable soldiers.
I wouldn't say it's useless. It happened so many times that my soldiers survived having less than 10 hp, so that means if they hadn't worn armor they'd have been dead.

Maybe it'll be good but why sell it if the developers want to release it for free? I think some people wouldn't be interested in buying, for example me, because I am stick to the rule which says don't pay for games, so if a particular game has higher price than 0 I just skip it.

The good thing is that not wearing armor grants you the great TUs bonus
I've read a lot about it but for me the armor is more important than TUs, because I approach slowly and more slowly, so I don't need TUs that much - I'd rather had my soldiers protected.

Maybe that would make sense because I never tried harder level than normal. Anyway, thanks for your feedback. I am also quite surprised, because today I played subway mission and before battle I thought "Oh no, this is the map which seems to be disliked by players", but it turned out to be quite interesting and nice close combat, I lost 2 civilians and 0 soldiers (actually all my soldiers could be considered as cannon fodder because that was the first mission for my new squad in a new base, but I was leading them with respect to their lives).

Tactics / Cannon fodder

Hello everyone,

I have read many times in this forum that most of players use cannon fodder and I would like to know why, because I never use tactics connected with rushing using cannon fodder. Here are the reasons:
- in this game you don't lead great army, but single soldiers and they all have their names, skills and before battle I pay a lot of attention to equip them so I don't want to lead them for certain death
- I usually lose 0-2 men per battle so most of my soldiers survive and gain experience and even if a valuable soldier dies I still can have at least 4-6 very good soldiers in battle while from what I've read players who use cannon fodder usually haven't got more than half of a squad well trained because they are so afraid of losing valuable soldiers

So I am simply curious why so many people use cannon fodder while for me not using it at all is more effective.

Discussion / Re: Funding

The funding value from every nation stopped growing at the same moment, if it may be important. It also hasn't decreased since then.

I had maximum funding in 2.4. but now I have 653 thousands and when I check the graph in game which shows funding at different moments I can observe that from some point the values for every nation don't change.

Hello everyone,

I've got a question about funding. I play 2.6. and the nations were slowly increasing funding, but since some in-game time they've stopped and now the amount of money they give me is the same and doesn't grow. I want to know if it is a bug or the nations eventually will start increasing funding again.

I don't know anyone who would like to do that, but anyway, thank you for your explanation. I really like new skins, the armor looks much better know, because it covers almost all parts of the body while the older one covered only head and chest.

Hello everyone,

I have a question about the uniforms. In 2.4 I could equip my soldiers with 4 different types of uniforms - urban, tropical, arctic and desert, although it hadn't made any difference yet. When I downloaded 2.6 I hoped that now it is implemented because I liked the idea of choosing not only weapons and gear, but also camouflage, but the only uniform I can select is urban one. Do you know if other types will be implemented and when?

Even on very hard, there are 25-30 fresh recruits every month on maximum nation happiness, so soldier expensive is no issue.
It is a VERY BIG issue, because new soldiers aren't as skilled as veterans so it is not worth to let a lot of soldiers die every mission.

At point-blank range, accuracy changes little, of course. But at the limit of slug range it's not quite so easy
I don't use slug rounds, because they are too weak. I found flechettes acting more like classic shotgun ammo and I use it at point- blank range and for further distances I give my soldier a plasma pistol.

Farthest one perhaps, but for those in the middle run-and-smoke extends the survivable area.
At mid - range it is even easier to pick off aliens with sniper and assault rifles, laser weapons are also excellent at this range.

You didn't have to tell me that since long range is the only proper range for me. Even my first shoot in the first battle after downloading the game first time was after kneeling down. The only thing missing is the possibility to lay down...

It is not true that civilians will be killed if you don't approach quickly. You rather have to kill aliens quickly so you have to have good riflemen at long range. Of course, you can't fire when an alien stays out of your sight, but if it is far and out of sight civilians will be killed anyway, no matter how fast you move, so I prefer to at least save my soldiers. Yesterday when I played my sniper died... He was worth more than all the other soldiers (expect other snipers). I replaced him with new one and painfully discovered how much did the accuracy decreased. However, I still use one soldier with a shotgun and if he dies I can replace him with a soldier who has even very low close combat skills, but in battle I can use him as good as the previous one.  This shows me that close combat does not require much skill and this is true not only in this game for me.

I know something about line of kneeling soldiers and use it as well, also I try to go to the roof if possible, but I prefer sniper rifles than laser rifles because they are stronger and a little bit more accurate. I also use assault rifles for long range firefights (human's or alien's, sometimes I still go for human's because it requires less action points to fire), but only as a support for snipers, although sometimes they operate alone if they are skilled enough. I have never used smoke or flashbang grenades, rarely frag, because I prefer to stay far rather than approach at all cost using everything to go just a few meters further. All in all, maybe in this game players prefer long range. Sadly it is not true in FPS...
