Discussion / Thank You All!

I had a really stressful week last week, both at work and home.  On Friday I stumbled on a link to this project.  Being a fan of the XCOM series (mostly one and two), I quickly downloaded it before I left work and hoped for the best.  I still play the old original XCOM from time to time, but it can get monotonous for those of us who have conquered it countless times.  So I was looking forward to relaxing with a new game, but not so new that I’ve got to learn a bunch of stuff.

I don’t have internet access at home (I live in the Boondocks), so I was hoping the executable I downloaded was a complete working game and didn’t require me to jump through a bunch of hoops or require more files to be downloaded.  I’m not a complete nub to computers, but sometimes you just want something to be easy.  I also hoped my graphics card would work, etc.  Anyway, it installed fine.  I was a little apprehensive because I hadn’t found a game I really liked in … oh, I don’t know … since Microprose went out of business.

I started the game and selected the Super Easy Baby Mode and began playing.  The first thing I saw worried me a bit.  The geoscape had a funny scrambled section, but I found if I zoomed in a bit, it went away.  OK, no prob I thought.  As I started I found the controls to be familiar, and I landed my ship full of operatives in a terror zone.  I went on to slaughter several aliens easily.  It felt good!

The soundtrack was excellent (although it turned to white noise occasionally,) the graphics were spot on, and the controls were very intuitive, providing good depth of play without requiring the player to micromanage a bunch of crap either.

Anyway, this is just a long winded “thank you” to everyone involved in bringing this game to reality.  I really needed some good recreation this weekend and UFO Alien Invasion fit the bill very well.  Thanks.
