Feature Requests / Re: Saving during missions.
« on: July 11, 2014, 07:17:06 pm »
and yet another time: I don't know the reason of others - but the reason why I didn't write this yet, is because I don't like it. Games need game overs, games must be challenging, I hate these casual game aspects. So the reason why it's not there is that nobody on the team cares about writing it - because in our opinion it would suck. And as I've said earlier already: UFOAI is opensource - do whatever you want with it. We would even add it to the mainline, just not enabled by default. We will never ever (at least not in the current teams mindset - correct me when I'm wrong) write this on our own. But we wouldn't care if anyone else would.

And of course there are ways to still exploit it with VMs - but honestly... if anyone wants to exploit a game, he will find a way - but why should we care about those? In the first view we are making a game for ourselves and for having fun while doing and playing it. And in general we only include features we believe in.

Being new to this forum I didn't know that you were only making this game for your own amusement. I assumed that someday you would want to put it on the market. If the above is true then you certainly can do what ever you wish and any critical comments are absolutely out of place. Since I am completely unqualified to contribute to your effort in any way and any comments I might make would only be my opinion and not at all relevant to your personal goal of 'having fun'.

Discussion / Re: Soldiers shooting soldiers

I'm playing 2.5. Whenever my soldiers shoot each other I just pretend that the alien psionic abilities have been implemented and the aliens just haven't perfected their use  yet. As if the aliens really need any more advantages.LOL  In spite of all this friendly fire I am still enjoying the game immensely.

Actually in this one mission I had three soldiers panic. Two just ran or dropped their weapon and then ran but the third turned around and shot a teammate who was standing next to the dropship and then a couple of turns later he again shot another guy. Neither soldier was in the line of fire of an alien or anywhere near it. Unfortunately the panic soldier was using a grenade launcher and killed both friendlies then he just stood there until an alien came up and killed him. As you might guess I didn't win. Prior to this mission I have seen several panics happen. You would expect this with green troops but not necessarily firing on comrades.

Hey, I just had one of my guys panic and deliberately shoot two of his teammates. I have never seen or heard of that happening in real combat. That doesn't seem to be a common panic response. I am a combat veteran and even experienced some panic myself. Usually panic results in a freeze or drop weapon and run and hide. I suppose it could happen but I have never read about such a thing. anyone else know more?

FAQ / manual error
« on: July 10, 2014, 04:37:19 am »
IN the manual it mentions  that you have a choice of HUD, either original, alternate or phone. I am playing the 2.5 and the only choice I have is original or phone. I don't know what phone is for it reduces your screen area by half. The alternate looks good but it's not there. There are several other things in the manual that don't seem to apply to 2.5. Did I download the latest or is there another update?

FAQ / changing difficulty
« on: July 10, 2014, 01:47:49 am »
Is there any way to determine what your difficulty setting is in the campaign you are playing? I have been playing for several hours and am getting slaughtered in every mission. I don't remember what difficulty I started with and probably should drop it to an easier one.
