Discussion / Re: Soldiers shooting soldiers

The other thing to note is that the green/red lines that are painted by the game represent approximations. You still need to use your judgement. If the line of fire is green but goes close to your soldiers and you're using a weapon with a bit of spread, then you're probably taking a risk in firing.
Sure, but three shots from an assault rifle by an elite troop shooting over or past someone's shoulder (especially coming out of the dropship), shouldn't result in them getting hit.

When you are in control, the game won't ever stop you from shooting anything
Sure, of course... but I think the incidence of soldiers hitting other soldiers is still too high. If they are elite troops like they are meant to be then when shooting past a fellow soldier (with a green line shot) the chance of hitting the soldier should be the exception, not the rule.

I agree that certain weapons have a wider spread and therefore will have a larger chance to hit something outside the direct aim, but it seems like the accuracy is too loose for relatively accurate weapons like the assault rifle.

They would of course still need to set up all their build environment by themselves - but I think they are used to it. Otherwise they would use Linux ;)
Not at all... if they are on Windows then they need to be spoon-fed.

You can tell the second soldier to move, but he doesn't move until the first is finished.

Bugs in stable version (2.5) / Re: Exit Battle Early

Which one do I clone from, the whole or just the master?
You need to get the 2.5 branch as master is 2.6

Something like this should work:
Code: [Select]
git clone -b ufoai_2.5 git:// ufoai-2.5

i recommend an option to increase by 10 and/or direct user input via keyboard to transfer large amounts as it is sometimes necessary, for example for alien materials or antimatter. sometimes even ammunition.
You can already do this... hold "Shift" and click to transfer 100 items at a time (iirc).

I'm sure I discovered that from a tool-tip or something.

I think the idea is to wait until 2.5.0 is released before thinking about trying to add this to 2.5.1. You'll just have to be patient.

I'm not sure that there were ever entries for each individual country, but the they are all described in the article After The War in the section Background in 2.5

Linux / Re: incomplete data.tar

It could be related to this.

(I think I saw somewhere that it also related to 2.4)

Gurus wanted ! / Re: [MAKE] on Windows
« on: March 02, 2014, 03:17:21 am »
Googling "msys make slow" gives lots of results that look relevant. The first couple are StackOverflow questions and the general consensus is that running an emulator on Windows will always be slow. One provided option is to try "make -r" which ignores implicit rules and hence stops checking for a million extra files that don't exist.

Hopefully that helps.

The downed ship appears on some maps, but not all maps. Not all maps have place markers for downed ships (or for drop ships which is why you appear in an open area).

Losing 3 people in a mission is very easy on hard. It depends on your tactics. If you start in an open space and don't use smoke then you could lose your entire team in a couple of moves.

I assume 2.4 saves will not work? (just started playing this week).
2.4 saves do seem to work, but you have serious issues with 2.4 soldiers not having enough strength due to changes in 2.5.

That's it?  Just blow them out of the sky?  You mean there's no other way to deal with them, because some of those UFOs are real tough, and sometimes they spawn too close to my base to shoot them down.
Firstly, if you put better armour and weapons on your interceptors, the ufos won't be so tough. Secondly you need defences in your bases (laser and missle batteries).

A base attack is exactly the same as a regular mission. If you are able to win in regular mission, what do you do differently to lose at base attacks?

Ok, I've taken a quick look.

Firstly, you only have radar coverage over Russia, The Asian Republic and part of the Middle East. The radar in your second base needs both a power plant (in progress) and a command centre (missing). Your approval rating for each country (and your income!) is based on you detecting and eliminating the alien threat. You can't detect without radar.

Secondly, your Dragon has no armour and only light weapons so will always take lots of damage. Your Stilletto only has Polymer Armour so will also take lots of damage. You have researched Alien Aircraft Plating so you need to produce some for your Interceptors at least.

Thirdly, you aren't producing or researching anything at the moment... given you have good facilities, you need to use them to constantly upgrade your forces.

Fourthly, you can get a lot more income (and hence build more bases and radars) by selling the excess alien tech you collect. You can't use Alien Armour so other than keeping one for research, you can sell the rest. Likewise, you won't need 48 Plasma Blasters, etc. Sure, keep a few, but the excess can be sold to help expansion.

I'd say overall you're on the right track but the 2 biggest things that helped me was realising that lack of radar meant countries get grumpy, and you can sell excess alien tech so you can build lots of radar (either in the form of a few bases or lots of radar installations - but remember installations are limited to 5 per base you have). Upgrading your aircraft armour should help with your planes being shot up all the time.

Capturing live aliens can be done either with the stun rod (none of your soldiers has it equipped - use your top close range soldier) or sometimes in the early game with snipers at long range.

The kerblade doesn't exist any more. I think it was replaced with the plasma knife, but don't quote me on it. I think there is a thread on the forums about it somewhere.

Have you got a saved game we could look at?
