Discussion / Long time no see!
« on: November 19, 2017, 10:53:36 pm »
Hello! I got into a discussion with some friends about XCOM, and it reminded me that UFO:AI was a thing. I'm pleasantly surprised that it's still being developed!
And a bit unpleasantly surprised that, even 4 years later, the game is still in version 2.5 despite seemingly still being worked on.

Anywho, hello! I hope everyone is enjoying this awesome project!

I have issues with reaction fire. For example, in a few missions I had soldiers at one end of a hall, looking down it. An alien walked up the hall and right past my soldiers without anyone firing. This has cost me soldiers in many cases, since aliens prefer to fire point-blank, it seems.

And that's not aggressive? I'm in December in a full campaign with 40 scientists total from 3 bases

Just to be sure, just because you recruited 58... did you actually have lab space for all of them?  A lab is pretty expensive, and allows 20 scientists to work.  58 scientists would need 3 labs.

But yeah, if you can't build ufo storage facilities in simple game mode, then you won't see a significant portion of the research tree.
Last I played (Today, on the Sept. 8th build) labs (And workshops) only provide workspace for 10 employees

I would also like to know if the updater is working, rather than download the full build every so often

and the simple game not the full one.
Well, part of your problem is just as you have mentioned: It's the simple campaign. What did you expect?
Then again, I'm not even sure why there is a simple campaign.

There used to be that item hit chances would be listed, so you could calculate how something like a targeting computer would affect your weapons, but I don't see that anymore.

2) No idea....

On the note of soldiers being mediocre, it's a matter of perspective. Let's look at it like this: Let's say you are recruiting soldiers from Army Rangers. Compared to civilian police, they are elite. Compared to all the other troops you are recruiting, or what you need, or what they could be, they are not very good; average or mediocre.

One thing I've noticed right away in 2.5 is that the wsad keys don't move the battlescape camera. Quite irritating. The font can also be hard to read since it's darker and thinner

There's actually an .exe for nightly builds now? It used to be that you had to compile it yourself, which I could never figure out no matter what and how many guides I looked through, haha

Windows / Error-less, message-less closing on mission start
« on: September 08, 2013, 02:31:09 am »
I'm running on Win32 2.4 Apr 25 release. Occasionally when I start into a mission, the game will close. I've checked the console, I don't see any errors. Just loading in teams then it ended.
When it happens again, I'll post the entire console to pastebin and link it here.

Here's the pastebin of the console: http://pastebin.com/akrx4ND4

I think I left around 2.1
Been playing 2.4 a bit (Pulled an all nighter, haha) And I've noticed a few changes that were being discussed when I left, and I like where it's gone. I have come across a couple crashes and spontaneous, error-less closings that I need to report

It's been a long time since I've come around here, and I doubt anyone will recognize my name, but I'm glad to see that development is not only not dead, but is stronger than when I left. Good on you guys!
