Discussion / Re: 2.4 Graphics
« on: September 17, 2010, 09:17:15 am »
On the particle test effect picture the realtime and dynamic lightning effects are deactivated because of the ATI bug. Also the new effects look mutch better in motion. If you mean the blue/bright explosion in the middle - it is a plasma explosion.

On our ModDB Game Profile you can checkout some more screenshots of the effects.

Ah that'd be it, lightning can make all the difference on even bad textures

Do they look worse to you guys, too? In the screenshots everything looks so bright and plastic and shiney.. I honestly have to say, 2.3 and down looks -much- more superior! Plus the explosion effects are icky too! It's like they are putting a lot of work where it doesn't' need to go and they are going three steps forwards and four back!

I dunno, the AI needs more aggression. Some maps, it feels like some wild goose hunt and gets extremely boring and randomly they will get a lucky kill in and I restart. Then there's maps where they are just stunned and its straight forward and easy.

Then there's maps.. Riverside Town. It's virtually impossible because you have to go to the aliens.. These are apparently some super aggressive, dominating force.. They already have massive technology over you and equipment, even more health better reaction fire than you can even dream of getting etc..

They need to push, come to you, be aggressive or do SOMETHING other than ducking in and out of cover, it's sickening especially now reaction fire is effed up beyond all recognition. They broke the game for me when they broke reaction fire.. Sure you can use the exact same weapons as everyone else does now adays and play the game like some breeze fest but come on I want a challenge or something different, surprises etc.

That is exactly the feeling I get. I want to cut down all side-arms except the semi-machine gun as it is the only worth having. Later plasma pistol takes its role nicely.

The semi automatic pistol is great, and the laser pistol is even better, the two best side arms in the game in my opinion.. I dunno what you dislike about them lol.

I'm sure this was probably brought up  before (can't remeber)...but mhoar weaponz

Everyone likes weapons. Frak, the most popular mods for every squad-based tactical game I know are wepon mods. So why not put a few more weapons in?

I know we have some spare models laying around, why not use them? A few different assault rifles..maybe human versions of plasma weapons (after all, they weren't made for a human hand, so ergonomics much be shitty), or a few more weapons.
Maybe different types of laser..UV laser, X-ray laser, gazer...frak, there's no shortage of ideas.
For larger caliber weapons we have different types of ammo, and as far as theoreticals go:

What other squad based tactical games are there out there btw?
We got promising technological solutions that would enable many sick weapons in the near future (once they are refined)

If nothing else, a game option like Jagged Allance 2 had - TONS OF GUNS. (bacily an option that turns on many new weapons in the main campaign)

 ;D

Yeah the new reaction fire is.. Special... It's obviously broken to me at any rate. Or at least make speed easier to build up or build up at all.

Discussion / Re: UFO: Female Invasion?
« on: April 10, 2010, 09:51:39 am »
1. The anabolic testosterone is a key factor in muscle development and bone density. While there is enough variety that on both ends of the spectrum, there is some overlap between males and females, on average men have ten times as much testosterone as women. Women are weaker on average. This is why sports events seperate by gender.

2. The myth about a higher pain threshold of women is based on observations of women during childbirth. However, it's now well known that during this time their body pumps out different chemicals. This increases their pain threshold during this time. From an abstract, "There was a significant decline in pain threshold after labor as compared to pain threshold during labor [...] Pain intensity using the VRS score was higher during labor than before labor [...] We found a significant rise in pain threshold during labor in term pregnancies." In fact, with the exception of pregnancy, it is men who have a slightly higher pain threshold.

Sorry but go through basic training a long side women and try and come back with that crap again. Women can be just as strong as men, not everything is found in books look to the real world. And on pain threshold, yes women do have a higher pain threshold, the books actually back me up on this one as they have a huge amount of endorphins through virtually any situation when most mens bodies would go into shock and shut down.

Sorry but I've gone through actual basic training in an actual army, you can come back after you've done 3 years service in an actual army. Meaning Marines or better.

In a FOSS project there are two kinds of people, those who contribute and those who don't. Not to imply that those who don't are in any way unimportant, but those who do are much more useful to the project. To those who are eager to see a new release, I suggest you get involved in contributing game content. There is a lot of things people can do, arguably the easiest being mapping. While not everything will actually speed up the next release, working on the game will at least keep you occupied.

I used to make maps for my league bag on MW4 for training/campaign like situations online, I'd be interested in mapping.

That US Army study was Bull swear word, like most US army "research" such as on dragon scale, the XM8 etc, complete and utter crap from incompetent half wits. Take your info from the Marines, who actually value a soldier regardless of gender, women can ignore pain easier and have a higher tolerance for general combat fatigue.

That and most the women in the military have been fighting their entire life so the average Joe Shmoe that joins up has to work up for a few years just to get up to their level. Ex military here, a female soldier is just as good as a male soldier, and don't give me this "Women should be weaker" bull. Its complete crap, maybe city girls or glam girls sure, but these are soldiers trained to the SAME standards as their male counterparts.

Heya guys! Hows things going? Well.. I'm not going to get anywhere if I wait for you to answer! So!

I was wondering if there is any way to edit saved games, right now I am on a Medium campaign and I got 16 soldiers.. I was wondering if I could edit it so there are more soldiers I can hire, and have more funds.. I have  6600000 Credit right now, but more soldiers make many expensives!

 Thanks for reading.
