TroubleMaker, if you are linux user (like I am), be a man and compile your own game.
Old habits dies hard, man. First version of UFO:AI was installed on my HW from official repos (if I'm not wrong).
But I definitely will take advantage of your suggestion. As a last resort.

did you click the penguin symbol on the desura page? afaik there are linux versions, 32 and 64, and if you just download it you won't need to install anything else
After clicking on penguin as on UFOAI-desura-1.jpg, immediately opens the frame as on UFOAI-desura-2.png

I have no desura installed and I will not install it to play.

Or had I clicked wrong penguin?

Our latest stable release is available for Linux on Desura.

They require to install something also (I know nothing about what the "desura" software is, they require to install it), and offer only one free download: for windows, which is not the thing I need.

Any other non-indie mirrors?

Regarding the official post on GetDeb's G+ stream, these servers - getdeb and playdeb - are closed forever. R.I.P.

...GetDeb and PlayDeb discontinue

After the server crash where also the GetDeb and PlayDeb database was lost and given the fact that GetDeb and PlayDeb now have too many packages to be handled as a one-man-project I decided to discontinue GetDeb and PlayDeb...

But what will be replacement for d/l linux versions of UFO:AI binaries?

Not really a bug but a missing feature. In 2.4 fired employee will not be rehireable.
I think he must be rehireable, but like the equipment: fired or unemployed person may disappear from list, but should reappear occasionally.
I know, that the veterans in real world may be gratefully hired by regular armed forces, SWAT etc, and will payed more than 1000-1500 "credits" per month. But they (in game) were assigned to PHALANX reserve by their govts, and they have orders (commands) what to do and where to be. As military persons, they can't disobey these orders.

More, I will (and I think many players will also) have trained reserve instead of crowd of rookies. It seems to be good idea to put trained vets to my reserve in order to train rest of rookies, while vets are relaxing. And these should not occupy in-base dormitories.

Otherwise player will be forced to feed large lazy garrisons, or build special prison-like bases with large dormitories just to keep reserve away of civic life. So, we not "firing" the vets, we just moving them to hidden reserve camp "the Underground Pool", where they just waiting for orders.

Another thought on transfers... I dislike to be blinded. And it will be very convenient to see listing of current transfers in large empty square lower left on base stats page: from, what, quantity, ETA. Such listing will greatly assist to strategical planning.

I don't know if it is bug, but the fastest transfer way is to fire a person on one base and immediately re-hire him/her on another.

For example, my industrial base was attacked. It had have a garrison of 8 rookies. After the battle few of these were wounded. And this base have no hospital. Well. Retired persons seems to avoid visit civil doctors and remain wounded after retirement. So, I fired the wounded soldiers and re-hired them on pure military base with plenty of living space and working hospital.
In order to not weaken defense of industrial base, and not to overcrowd military one, I've fire some equal number of soldiers at military site and re-hired them at industrial site.
Fast and cheap.

in the mean time they are just pressed against the closest wall of the ship facing me.
I using this to give my team enough time to take a positions. One fast soldier with infravisor "stuck" aliens inside the ship, while other soldiers taking covers and convenient places. I just love such herding...

Does it really say it transfer aliens to the other base, not that you selected, or just missed it here?
I'm not sure if it was fixed, but confirming for 2.3.0/win:

I have 3 bases with containments: HQ, OZ and S-Africa. After stunning an alien, I got choice: one of three bases in order of containments building. When I choose HQ or OZ, stunned bodies transferred to HQ. Choosing S-Africa, and bodies transferred to OZ. No way to directly transfer stunned to S-Africa, only thru transient bases.

My medics (one per team) equipped with stun-rods and plas-pistols. Stunning alien. Nothing happens? OK, shooting him with pistol then. Bingo!

But the bug is the following: shooting over stunned body just eats TU without actually firing. Sometimes it is inconvenient to step much closer to enemy to shot him. But also it may be a life-saver: a soldier standing over stunned body became invulnerable. But to fire his weapon he must leave his position. :-)

May be wrong topic, but...

Downloaded 2.3.1 from playdeb. Installation went just fine. Game ran with music w/o problems.
Copied the saves from 2.3.0/win32.
The saves loaded perfectly also.
But! Any crashed UFO or terror site offers me all three choices (sorry for back-translation from Russian): "landing", "auto" and "cancel". Even if crash occurs near my base. And any attempt to land returns me to geoscape instead of loading proper map and starting tactical mission. Auto-battles always won, but they give no loot :-)

Saving and re-loading, restarting game, rebooting PC gave no results.
Copied the linux-made saves back to windows, loaded them in 2.3.0/win and continued normal game with tacticals.

What is this? Playdeb's compilation fault?

Also, could not defeat extremely low framerate: <5 on geoscape. In "text" windows (bases, email, stats) f/r is normal: 20+
Video settings were set exactly after windows' version ones.

env: Lucid/32 (latest updates on 14:00GMT 27.09.10), GNOME, m/b iD865PERL, Celeron 2.4GHz, v/c Nvidia GeForce 6200/AGP, w/m Compiz (no Emerald themes)

Electomagnetic rifle (ex Bolter) — «Электромагнитный карабин», или «ЭМК». В разговорной речи сокращается до «эмка».
Coilgun — индукционная винтовка (или просто индукционка).
ЭМК - мне нравится. Насчет coilgun, фантастами давно придуман термин "гауссовка" именно для такого оружия
