It could be an interesting expansion to the game to allow playing as one of the alien races.... PRIOR to their infestation / subjugation.  Maybe a feature for version 3.28. :P

Sounds and Music / Re: [WANTED] Geoscape sounds needed

Hey guys....
Long time, no post. :P

Anyways, I downloaded the latest pre-built Windows package (yeah, still haven't taken time to learn how to compile from source myself..).   It was cool as could be to hear the Geoscape sounds I'd sent in actually used.

Then I listened to them.  I need to make some more to fill in the missing gaps, and a few need to be changed up as they are WAY too similar to each other.  So, I'm going to see if I can't make a complete set over the next month or so, and see what I can submit.

Just thought I'd check back in. :)

Great track... Just converted it to MP3 and loaded it onto my iPod.  It'll get some playtime outside of the game even. =)  I like stuff like that when working certain tasks at the jobplace.

For the Zoom-in sequence, what might also work is the quick static, a super-fast rewind (like someone running a DVR backwards really fast), the zoom box frames in on the general area of the incident (jump-in).  It then enhances the new framed area, frames an even tighter area, zooms and enhances again, then plays the "close up" of the carrier.  Kind of a two-stage deal.  Wide shot, static, frame, zoom & enchance, frame again, zoom & enhance again, close shot.

I realize it's likely a lot of work, but the actual time watching-wise would only be a matter of ~10 seconds.

Just another idea to consider...

Discussion / Re: Civilians... those little buggers.
« on: January 20, 2008, 10:10:08 pm »
First, I think the civ-limit mechanism is definately in need of refinement / rethinking.

BUT (You know it was coming) - humans, especially panicced, untrained civilians, are STUPID animals.  They DO run into danger.  They do stuff that is illogical.  When the nice big soldiers appear, unless the civilian has seen and knows it's aliens attacking, may very well think it's a military attack.  If they do recognize the soldiers as the "good guys" - and the good guys with the big protective guns are moving in the direction opposite of the "safe place" they've just been instructed to go to, they may not go there.  After all, who is there to protect them?  What makes THAT place safe?

Humans are stupid, illogical, panicy, ANIMALS.  I'd like to give us more credit than that, but honestly, I don't think history would support it.

This is still posted... Are we still needing a sound?

Purchase the software you're using rather than, by your own words, stealing it.

Active Camoflage is not far out from current RL research.  Given the "superior technology" of the aliens, they may have solved the technical limitations we're currently encountering-

Last October saw a major breakthrough in an area of research that, until very recently, was squarely in the realm of science fiction

I run on Vista Ultimate x64, with Aero.  Seems to work for me with build from 10/10/2007 and the following start-up options:  +set vid_fullscreen 1 + set snd_init 1 +set gl_mode 8

Turco may have the better sound, but I was bored tonight...

I think it was a language issue, Winter.  You described her with "piercing eyes", and it got misinterpretted.  Saw it this morning (my time) and thought it was a great. :)

Sounds and Music / Work in progress - opinions?

Reminds me of a rock-band remake of the X-Files theme.

Take that as you will.

If that doesn't work, try starting it with  "+ set snd_init 0" (open the property sheet for the shortcut - you'll find the target line there).

I have a hunch based on my experience, and would like to test it.

Sounds and Music / Particle and sound needed: Electrolaser

What can I build next? =)

Yeah, decided I'm not done yet... I want to play around some more.  Need more Geoscape sounds?

BTW - If I can get some donated time from a local recording studio, I'm going to TRY and convince my wife to do some female combat sounds / screams for us.  Doubt I'll get the time, and even more, I doubt my wife will agree...  But I'll try.

Okay, I posted a new file on my FTP server.

It has:
GeoScape Sound 2, 3, 4, and 6.  These were all created entirely by me via sine waves.  I will release them under whatever license you find easiest / most convienent.

ElectroLaser - This is a composite of sine waves from me, and samples from other sounds that I have put into the ElectroLaser Sources folder.

The READ_ME has the full description of what sounds the Electrolaser is composed of, the license it was released under, and a link to the source page for THAT SPECIFIC sound so if you need it, you have it.

I hope that's enough for you guys.  Let me know.
