Windows / Compiling problems

I've followed the instructions in the wiki pages on getting the source of the latest dev version up to here

Feature Requests / Night Missions during Daytime Bug

I'm come across this a few times now.
Every so often I get a downed UFO that no matter when I send in the troops, it is always night time on the ground.

Discussion / I just got shot by a civvie!!??!!

I'm having a crack at the very hard difficulty level right now, and something really odd just happened on the Army base mission.

I killed a bunch of aliens around the left entrance, and as I was sweeping the base for the remaining few aliens, one of my guys was shot in the back - I turned around and there was a civvy holding a plasma pistol.

WTF??

Should have taken a screenshot but forgot

but I say again:

WTF???

Feature Requests / equipment bug

(V. 2.2.1 windows32)

In a game yesterday I managed to stun 3 soldiers accidently with a gas grenade ( trust me to give it to a girl to throw it).

The remaining soldiers completed the mission so the stunned soldiers survived, however upon returning to the base, their equipment had dissapeared.

Is this supposed to happen ?- if so why because it doesn't really make sense - or is this a bug?

Feature Requests / Equipment screen feature request

I was thinking today how tedious moving to the equipment screen and equipping items is during combat gameplay,  - open equip screen, put grnade in hand, exit equip screen, then throw grenade

It occurred to me that it would be nice if we could have something similar to the reload option in the HUD  for misc items and perhaps secondary weapons too.
So for example if there were say a couple (say 3 or 4?)  of allocated / numbered  slots in the equip screen that during battle the items would then show in the HUD - the use that item simply click the item(either an icon depicting the item or simply a number, then the cross hair, then use the item - and have the full TU cost including equipping the item displayed and decucted. That way the equip screen need harldy ever be used during combat at all.

Feature Requests / Aircraft Weapon / Ammo Bug

Just noticed that if you equip a craft with weapons but forget to buy ammo - the weapons will not be re-armed if you subsequently buy ammo at a later date- you need to de-equip - then re-equip the weapons in order to arm the weapons and make the craft active.

Windows / Another geoscape issue

This one is almost certainly 100% my own fault  ::)

I was playing around with the options to try and make the game run a bit faster as the only pooter I have at home at the moment is a rather ancient (read slow)  laptop - unfortunately I seem to have managed to switch off the display of day and night in the geoscape - so the whole thing shows as daylight now - and I can't figure out how to change it back.

so 2 questions really - how do I get the day/night display back?

what are the best settings to increase game speed? - don't mind sacrificing game graphics and sound

Discussion / The Laser Rifle is just a little bit too good

Well the title says it all really - due to its relatively high damage rating, rate of fire (i.e. the relatively low number of TUs it needs to fire)  and number of shots per shot (if you get my meaning), it's loads better than the plasma or PA weapons, even the heavy weapons.

Tactically its better too, as the reaction fire button allows you to save exactly enough TUs for a kneel and fire with the LR, and again the high rate of fire makes your troops more mobile.

It's just a little bit too good to be the very first new weapon a player is likely to research and develop - in fact at the current stage of development for the game, there's no need for any other weapon right through until the end.

I'm probably jumping gun (pardon the pun  ::) ) and there will be more balancing of the weapons and bigger, tougher, and  meaner aliens that'll make the other weapons more useful in future revisions, but just in case the programmers have spent too much time coding and not enough time playing to see how unbalanced the weapon research tree is then I thought I'd mention it

Discussion / Line of sight Vs Line of Fire

Its mostly pretty good, but it does have some very silly moments when windows or waist level obstacles are involved - it seems that line of fire is only permitted when there is a clear line of sight to the centre of the alien's body.

I've attached an example of one of the silliest examples of this I've come  across to date - I could spit on the alien - reach through the window to shake his hand - but I can't shoot him.

Any plans to fix this? can it be fixed.?

Windows / My Geography is poor but....

I'm pretty sure the map of the world doesn't look like this.

Just installed (then reinstalled - then reinstalled - then re-downloaded - then reinstalled) V 2..2..1
  and I'm getting this garbled geoscape image every time - rotating the map or switching between 2D and 3D makes no difference.

Was previously running  V2.2 with no major probs

Running it on a fairly ancient old dell laptop running XP sp3 and whatever the onboard graphics controller for that is (intel 915gm/gms 910gml I think)
