Tactics / Pesky UFOs shooting down my assult teams!

Hi guys picked up the dev version and strated playing last night.

I was rocking along happyily until I sent my troop carrier on a mission and a UFO poped up and blew it out of the sky! Very rude.

Is there a way I can protect against this?
