Discussion / Long time no see!
« on: November 19, 2017, 10:53:36 pm »
Hello! I got into a discussion with some friends about XCOM, and it reminded me that UFO:AI was a thing. I'm pleasantly surprised that it's still being developed!
And a bit unpleasantly surprised that, even 4 years later, the game is still in version 2.5 despite seemingly still being worked on.

Anywho, hello! I hope everyone is enjoying this awesome project!

Windows / Error-less, message-less closing on mission start
« on: September 08, 2013, 02:31:09 am »
I'm running on Win32 2.4 Apr 25 release. Occasionally when I start into a mission, the game will close. I've checked the console, I don't see any errors. Just loading in teams then it ended.
When it happens again, I'll post the entire console to pastebin and link it here.

Here's the pastebin of the console: http://pastebin.com/akrx4ND4

Discussion / Returned after a couple years
« on: September 07, 2013, 12:34:42 pm »
It's been a long time since I've come around here, and I doubt anyone will recognize my name, but I'm glad to see that development is not only not dead, but is stronger than when I left. Good on you guys!

Artwork / Glowmaps
« on: October 14, 2010, 11:24:33 pm »
I noticed that the glowmap for the geomap is still lighting up during the day. Since animated textures are supported, why dont we use an animated glowmap for the earth?

Also, I noticed that in the battles, glowmaps are...broken for many models (several civilians, trees, scout debrie are all that I remember off the top of my head) I'm sure its a simple problem, like the texture referencing the wrong image for the glowmap

Offtopic / GEEX Show 2010
« on: July 18, 2010, 07:11:37 am »
GEEX Show 2010 just finished up, and it was a blast. I had entered into the Game in a Day competition, and out of the 10 or so groups involved, mine took 3rd place
Its worth braging about because of all the issues we ran into.
First, numerous power-outages due to city power grid being unable to handle the sheer amount of power the hundreds of computers, TVs, etc were drawing.
Second, model import issues. No matter what converter I used, my models would not go into Torque right.
Third, camera. When we did get something into Torque for the character, the camera was at the characters feet.
Fourth, AI, or lack thereof. Despite the programmer in the group being the one to suggest Torque, he just could not get AI's to follow paths

But hey, I dont look a horse in the mouth, as the saying goes.

Windows / No reaction fire
« on: June 24, 2010, 12:56:25 am »
When the entire alien team gets to expend 90% of their APs, right infront of my soldiers without my troops so much as twitching, theres a problem. Has someone changed the reaction fire code, so that humans dont get to do it? I know reaction fire works for the aliens, but, like I said, 3 of my soldiers, staring right at 4 aliens while THEY shot, didnt pull the trigger. Reaction fire was on, they had the APs, but no shots were taken

Offtopic / Jesus, in 3D!

Just wow. In Autodesk's Maya no less.
If that file ever gets leaked, all hell will break loose, figuratively. All sorts of animations will pop up using that. I can imagine how livid the religions are going to be

Windows / No night-day visible with 3D Geoscape in R29197
« on: March 30, 2010, 01:41:53 am »
Yeah, so there is no day-night in the latest revision on the 3D geoscape. It makes it really hard to plan missions

Discussion / UFO:AI Online
« on: March 21, 2010, 08:30:01 pm »
We all know everyone here loves UFO:AI, and theres enough stuff that an online game could be made
Thats what I'd like to do (Since Destructovator has animation fairly well covered). I have a server, I have a game engine, so all I need are the resources

Offtopic / Peace prize...for being awsome?
« on: November 12, 2009, 07:20:51 am »
http://finance.yahoo.com/career-work/article/108139/the-worlds-most-powerful-people-2009?mod=career-leadership

I know, I know, the internet can lie, but regardless, there are funny things. In this article in Yahoo about the most powerful people in the world, it lists them in order, and why.
This was under Obama:
"•Recently awarded Nobel Peace Prize, apparently for general awesomeness"

If thats all you need for a Nobel Prize, then why havent I gotten one?

Discussion / UFO:AI User-submitted-video ad!
« on: October 28, 2009, 02:34:39 am »
Ok, so I was just sitting at my desk, playing games that required no thought, when the idea of putting together an ad for UFO:AI came to me, and I thought it would be particularly cool if it were made of vids other users had made, be it acutal in-game, or videos made from importing content and making a video that way.
If anyone is interested, here are some rough guidlines:
Please no low-quality videos. People have to be able to see whats going on
Please keep the videos to about 30 seconds. I dont want it to be a long ad, but it still needs to look cool.
Give name for both video, map (if playing the game), and you (real or screen-name are acceptable)
Upload video in a compressed folder somewhere for download

Bugs prior to release 2.3 / 2 things in R26705
« on: October 25, 2009, 07:57:31 pm »
First things first, on the tropical map, I got this

Code: [Select]
Connecting to localhost...
load material file: 'materials/tropic.mat'
music change to PsymongR3 (from van_geoscape)
Starting the game...
Vedrit has joined team 0
(player 0) It's team 1's round
Vedrit has taken control over team 1.
music change to PsymongR2 (from PsymongR3)
********************
ERROR: Game Error: Could not find any living player on team -1
********************
Shutdown server: Server crashed.

Then, later on a different mission, a scout crash, the game suddenly crashed. I checked the console log, and found no errors.

Code: [Select]
-------------------------------------
Connecting to localhost...
load material file: 'materials/ufocrash.mat'
music change to David04 (from karlmacklin_geoscape)
Starting the game...
Vedrit has joined team 0
(player 0) It's team 1's round
Vedrit has taken control over team 1.
music change to David04 (from David04)
and just ends

Offtopic / Movies as a Maya texture
« on: October 23, 2009, 02:36:38 am »
As some of you may not know, I use Autodesk Maya 2008 for most of my modeling and animating. One of the personal projects Im working on required the use of a video as a model texture. For nearly a month, I simply couldnt figure out how to get it to work. Then, today, while visiting my former animation class, I played around with some of the options, and checked a box that is unchecked by default.
If anyone wants to see the result, I'll post the link to the file

Bugs prior to release 2.3 / 24629 took a step backwards?
« on: June 09, 2009, 10:14:04 pm »
Odies build R24629 seems to have taken a step backwards. The pathfinding system wont allow you to go to the second story of Harvesters, and you cant watch aliens move. The first is a major problem, the second a convenience
