Feature Requests / Security cameras when defending bases?
« on: February 04, 2012, 07:47:51 pm »
Currently when defending one's base from attack it becomes rather boring tracking down the last remaining alien or two. (especially on huge bases with lots of buildings with surface access.)

Letting us use the bases security cameras to track alien movement would help offset the tedium of tracking down the few remaining aliens in a failed assault attempt on your base.

For more depth there could optionally be a "security building" a player would have to construct to enable this ability (although I would think the command center would work just as well) or perhaps a key NPC in the command center that monitors the cameras and is vulnerable to elimination by the aliens?

Coding / Static Campaign?
« on: February 03, 2012, 02:31:52 am »
In the latest developer version (2.4) I notice an option when starting a new campaign called "Static Campaign."  What is this new campaign option and how does it differ form the basic one?

Discussion / Did I just beat the game?
« on: February 21, 2008, 09:58:41 am »
I was playing along like normal, and had just successfully destroyed the very first viral attack craft then returned to base, the game continues on for about another 7 days then i get a screen showing a alien ship and the message "Thank you for playing UFO Alien invasion Now after you have finished the single player campaigns you should try the multi player features."

Then when I click to continue i get another screen showing a bunch of soldiers posing for the camera.

So is this the actual ending for the game or did I somehow lose?

(Incase any of these details matter: Difficulty easy, viral infection 4% income 788,433, all research except UFO harvester, fighter, alien propulsion completed. (I couldn't do these because I never captured a scout UFO.)

Feature Requests / Feature Suggestion: Ordering Civilians
« on: February 21, 2008, 07:34:09 am »
After reading another post about how the civilians should have some screaming dialogue it occurred to me it'd be nice if you could give limited orders to civilians provided your soldier was within LOS or x # of spaces from them.

The available orders would be:

"Stay put" - The civvy stops moving and crouches down

"Get to cover" -The civvy moves towards a position that will keep out of line of sight from any aliens.

"Head for the drop ship." -The civvy moves in the most direct path towards the drop ship then stays near it.

This would add to the tactics on maps and make the civvies feel more like people and less like zombies. (Currently they seem to either stand still while being shot at or just move aimlessly about until blown away)

After playing for a long time I've noticed the # of soldiers available for hire grows into an insanely long list (especially on easy) and trying to put together a decent team for a new base (or find a couple replacements) from the lengthy list can be a real pain in the butt.

My idea is to give an option to delete members off the roster permanently if they're someone you know you'll never use. (such as someone with all mediocre stats compared to the people that are at least competent or proficient in one or more)

Or perhaps a way to filter them by a certain skills capability from most skilled to least. (This would make it easy to find a replacement sniper or what not by filtering all the available recruits by the skill needed)

Not sure if this would be easy or hard to implement though. (The delete option should be dirt simple however)

Currently Ive set up a "prison" base in Antarctica full of nothing but crew quarters where I've stuck all the useless wannabes to slim down the list, but it's a rather expensive solution ($860,000 a month in additional expenses lol)

Feature Requests / Feature Request: In mission saves
« on: February 20, 2008, 03:09:04 pm »
Just a simple request to enable in mission saves for a future release of UFO AI; for the simple reason that on some of the longer ones I don;t always have time to play the mission all the way through In a single setting, and having to leave the game booted up when I'm not at home or using the PC is really inconvenient.

Granted this is might make missions "easier" per se, since you can just reload after a bad tactical choice, but then again there's nothing forcing you to save every single turn either ;) (perhaps adding in a "enable in mission saves" button to the options screen would be a good idea or only enabling it for normal and lower difficulties?)

Like the title says I'm currently unable to research any of these things. I've collected about a dozen UFO propulsion's systems and captured both a harvester and a fighter and gotten the research proposal mails for all 3. However whenever I try to research any of them they appear white/grayed out and the standard mesage "we do not have all the necessary materials etc.. to research this item yet."

(And yes I have both a laboratory, workshop, and UFO hangers in the same base.)

I've even tried transferring the items to another base but to no avail. These are currently the only things available to reseach in my research tree, so researching something else before I can  do these ones isn't;t possible either.

If anyone's interested in looking at my save files just send me a PM and let me know where to e-mail them.
