Artwork / Some alien robot

Here's a draft of some scarey alien robot.
Surprising as it may seem, but I call it a Mantis. Supposed role - not particularly a combat machine, but rather a sort of field research drone to conduct autopsies and medical/biochemical experiments right on the field, unlike Bloodspider which is only for biomaterial retrieval. Hence the lack of ranged weaponry and not-so-combat-viable layout. Though with alien technology being wastly superior that ours, it could still be a fearsome opponent.

Artwork / UGV autocannon module

Here's an attempt to make an autocannon module for UGV. The model I've seen in UFOpaedia looked more like a placeholder, and I needed to familiarize myself with Blender  :) (Wings is handy, but I want to learn to make animations)

Artwork / Aircraft laser model

Here's a suggested model for aircraft-mounted laser cannon. Two issues I'd like to discuss:
1. Should the model include the turret? I used Shiva cannon for inspiration and it had none.
2. What ammo does it use? I included a larger D-F pack, should the standard infantry DF cartridges be used?

Other feedback is welcome.

Translating / Russian translation

I found this forum lacking such a thread :-)
I see there's a number od Russian-speaking people on the forums, so a thread on Russian translation would be handy anyway.

The fist thing I stumbled upon reading msgids is one for Bolter rifle. Russian translation sounds like (a word that I cannot write here) which means "Needle-thrower". That sounded pretty good to me, since I know no good Russian equivalent for bolt or bolter, and Bolter rifle shoots needle-like projectiles. But the proposed alien Needler weapon would probably have the same translation. So I suggest to simply transliterate Bolter rifle into (ah, no Cyrillics, so translit then) "Boltyernoye ruzhjyo", "Boltyernaya vintovka" or simply "Boltyer". This names were used in Warhammer 40k translations, so this are not complete neologisms.

Artwork / UGV pod

Here's a dedicated thread for UGV pod discussion, in order not to clutter Models thread.

My next variant is an externally-mounted pod, streamlined and equipped with bottom hinges, as Winter said. It shows open hinges and sort of protruding antenna, otherwise it is quite similar to fuel pod.

Artwork / Alien launcher (portable)

An idea on alien counterpart to RPG was spawned in this thread, so I made a try on one. I somewhat based it on alien craft rocket launcher concept, with rockets accelerated by magnetic coils.

Feature Requests / Destructable AA defences

It may sound like a borrowing from UFO:Extraterrestrials, but I would like to suggest SAM-sites and other ground-to-air defences being vulnerable to aircraft fire, along with alien bases having such structures. So that a raid on alien base could be either preceded by an airstrike with attack crafts, or player tries his/her luck with sending a dropship against unsupressed AA defence. As an option, only planned "external" SAM sites and radar towers could be vulnerable, while base's own defences are hidden below the ground and thus indestructible.

I've been toying with Wings 3D editor and tried to model that rocket carbine of mine. Its my first try in game modelling, once I get master the editor and learn to make textures, I might even try something more useful later :)

I haven't learn texturing yet. All sort of feedback is welcome!

Feature Requests / Weapons/equipment suggestions

While looking at proposed weapons and equipmet on Wiki I've got a few ideas of my own. I wonder, if suggestions are accepted yet? If yes, maybe there's a sort of template for proposals to make implementation easier? Or there's already much to do, and I better keep them to myself, unless I have extensive description, stats and textured model for them?
