Offtopic / Looking for a 3D Artist for a commercial game

Since we had not luck with our last applicants, we (Atomic-Gear) decided to change our plans.

We now want to develope a "Space Tower Defense" game which would require much less 3D-Assets than the shoot em up project (which is not cancelled, but on hold).

Hi Ho! Iam looking for a 3D Artist with decent 2D / texturing skills who is interested in working on a commercial game project which is currently in the pre-production stage for PC and Mobile Phones whereof iam the Game, Story and Sound Designer. It is an anime themed / styled sci-fi game in that you take control of a spacecraft in a top-down view to destroy your enemies, fight bosses, buy new ships, weapons you can upgrade (like Tyrian or Raptor - Call of Shadow) and advance in a interesting (not a plain) Story. Aiming for a release on mobile devices (Android, iOS) and PC (Steam, Desura), its the second game of the indie dev team Atomic-Gear of which iam one of the founders. Requirements:
- Good 3D/2D art skills, especially in creating anime styled and low poly assets (sci-fi/high-tech/mecha/modern/environment)
- Animation skills (mainly mechanical objects like ship parts etc.)
- High motivation and enough time to timely finish the required assets
- Expierence with creating low poly assets

Nice-to-have skills:
- Capable of drawing of 2D characters (avatars, backgrounds etc.) and concept arts
- Capable of creating steampunk 3D/2D assets
- Expierence with the Unity3D Engine

Your job will be:
- Create all types of 3D and 2D assets (environments, characters, objects etc. - depends on your specialtys)

Compensation:
Compensations will be negotiated before getting accepted (profit share, per model basis or fixed amount *after release*, etc.)

After we had bad luck with some applicants of our last game, i need to mention that you have to be reliable. We cannot need someone who's doing stuff very slowly and/or then suddenly vanishes, so that we cannot use the content and have to start over again.

User modifications / Looking for voice actor for geoscape sound mod

Iam looking for a voice actor (preferably female) to create a english "voice" mod for the geoscape status sounds which would include following lines:

  • New Mission available
  • Alien Acitivity Detected
  • New Mail recieved
  • Status Report (aka info)
  • Your soldiers have been promoted
  • UFO detected
  • UFO lost
  • One of our bases is under attack
Iam not sure if its possible to add own sound effects for events like research complete through a mod? Is it possible with UI2? Btw. keep in mind that this mod will not featured in the official release.

Sounds and Music / Get rid of the silence!

Okay - the battlescape is very quite which causes a lack of atmosphere in battlescape. We got some maps with some 2D Amb sounds (plays always at the same volume, regardless the position of the camera) which is a good start. So i came up with the idea to post a thread with some suggestions and tips for new mappers. Cut a long story short - here are my thoughts:

- Add 3d amb sounds to things like rivers, lakes, fire sites etc.
- Add 2d STEREO amb sounds like city_abnd_ufoai_atm.ogg or ufo_night_atm.ogg (i can provide some, but amb sounds are not my strong point)
- Never, NEVER use a sound which have less than 22khz or have a obviously a bad quality.
- Dont use any sounds which have a bad loop or will be noticable repetitive.
- Oh dear god of code, please let someone implement my Footstep feature request ;)

Feature Requests / Equiptment Screen - Highlight Weap. Skill

Toady i came up with a wonderfull idea. Its really annoying and inconvenient to check which weapon needs which skill. So why not highlight the skills in the soldier info when your mouse hovers over the weapon? Check the screenshot for an example/concept. Anyway it would be a nice feature and would make the first steps for new players more easier - i hope its not to much work. ;)

Iam a huge (in a universe magnitute, actually my Avatar is MMX inspired, but because of the restrictions i cant use it in its full glory here :P) Mega Man X series fan and i just noticed that OCRemix released a 5 CD (!!!) big album featuring various remixes of all MMX series.
Probably someppl like the MMX universe here too, so i decided to share the news here.

Coding / [REQ] dynamic lightning color tool

Now that the dynamic lightning for ptls finally works again (a epic thx for that), id like to add the dynamic color information to them. It would be cool if someone could write a little program that helps me with that. I just need a color picker, a regulator for the intensity and a output of both in a text box. I attached a concept picture.

Good News Everyone!

I asked a Friend (Makaber) if he could create us a new Bloodspider model and he accepted:

Bloodspider_1 is a bit more true to the old model. But for him it looks more like a bug and less like a spider. So Bloodspider_2 resembles a spider alot more.

Personally i prefer the first one.

Are the mail contact Avatars are random generated models or just pictures? If theyre pictures we should replace them with some drawn avatars because it will look much better. Well surely we need to ask around if someone draw us some.

Discussion / Another use of the new Stiletto Model

Okay i think its a bit sad that the awesome new Stiletto model is too soon replaced by the Saracen (i switch to it asap, because the Stiletto becomes useless very soon ingame). We probably should add a something like a "Stiletto MK2" (upgraded with advanced tech) which will become available after some alien research. Maybe we can change the appearence by modify the model or skin (just some small things).
