Announcements / Re: Forum Activation
« on: March 11, 2024, 01:24:13 pm »
Due to increased spamming activities, I had to turn forum user activation to manual. If you just registered, please log on to our IRC channel and drop a note that you would like your user to be activated. Sorry for the inconvenience.
And now registration is disabled all together, due to the large ammount of outgoing activation emails going to accounts the Spamcheck marks as spam.
In order to avoid the hosting server ending up on blacklists and other such fun abuse lists, any user who wish to register need to join our IRC channel on Libera and notify us that you want to register a forum account.

Offtopic / Re: POLL Do you want RTX? Cross-website-post.
« on: March 26, 2023, 02:49:50 pm »
So far no body has voted. :(
There's still time if you want to since the poll should close tonight in about 6 and 1/2 hours.
Didn't notice this thread until today. ;-)

RTX is an Nvidia thing.
Personally I would never use Nvidia cards. I will go out of my way to stay away from Nvidia cards only because Nvidia doesn't have Free Software drivers, often called «Open Source».
I know there are some cards that work with Nouveau drivers, I still prefer AMD or Intel over Nvidia

I don't trust proprietary software, and I especially don't trust proprietary drivers. So I use Intel or AMD GPU's.

I am a Free Software advocate, and have used GNU/Linux as my operating systems since 2001.

Sounds and Music / Re: Apparently, the media files are NOT free?
« on: April 13, 2022, 02:04:54 pm »
Somehow I missed this topic, but in september 2015 I opened a discussion about this on LibreGameWiki, which resulted in the game being listed on the site. :)

Linux / Re: Debian: feedback and tests welcome
« on: July 01, 2014, 04:41:27 pm »
What is the reasoning for displaying: "Download this game for free" at the intro screen?
Personally I would like that the text was changed to something like "Download this free game", since that is more correct for a Free software project such as this. It implies that it is both "for free" and "free software", whereas the current text only suggest that is is for free and not necessarily free software.

Discussion / Re: 2.5 sucks completely
« on: February 23, 2013, 04:46:21 pm »
Someone did some tests recently and found RF would not activate under a certain accuracy % threshold (maybe 25%?). This may account for a lot of the perception that it "doesn't work", especially if people are routinely trying to RF at distance with single-shot firemodes. We're considering reducing or eliminating this threshold.
Since this is discussed, I thought I'd think out loud with an idea that crossed my mind when reading this post just now.
Is it possible to have this as an option, so those who like the reaction fire the way it is can still have the threshold?

I have no idea on how complicated or dificult it might be to create the option, just thought I'd share the idea.

Playdeb & Getdeb are offline since a while, don't know why...
They are back online now.

Translating / Testing your translations
« on: February 01, 2013, 10:27:27 pm »
There is an important thing to consider when you're testing the translation. Some of you might have the stable game installed (e.g. using apt-get, urpmi, yum or the like) while testing the development version, from git. (I have this kind of setup)

Make sure you compile manually using
Code: [Select]
./configure && make If not, the development version might use the installed translation in /usr and not your updated translation from the development version.

Translating / Proposal for new translation hosting
« on: January 16, 2013, 07:04:40 pm »
The last year I've been involved in translation of other packages. The vast majority of them is hosted at the Translation Project. The main benefit for translators is that when the pot file changes, all translators get an email, saying something to the effect that the pot file changed so we should try to update the translation.

When we submit a new/updated po file, we get a mail withing about 10 minutes, saying it's accepted. If something is wrong with the po file we submit, it is rejected and we get a mail back saying why it was rejected. So it automatically test compile them, to make sure it's ok.

Tactics / Re: Where/why/how many bases do you build?
« on: August 06, 2012, 10:17:01 am »
it's not the missile cost, but the fact that I'll send the interceptor after one target and get ambushed by a second and lose it because they're universally faster.
One of the first things I always do is to build two extra small hangars, so that I have 3 interceptors at a base. So when a ufo is detected, I send all 3 interceptors from the same base at it. Then the chance of shooting it down increases considerably.

FAQ / Re: Dedicated Server
« on: August 06, 2012, 08:38:49 am »
There's no dedicated server that's always up.
What would it take / require to have a dedicated ufoai-server? I have a Debian server that could be used for this, and is willing to at least try, if that's something the community would want.

Translating / Email notification on pot file updates
« on: July 29, 2012, 06:05:05 am »
Is it possible to receive an email whenever the pot file changes?
I don't mind having to subscribe somewhere, as long as I get a notice on Email that the pot file is updated. I need email notification as I rarely visit forums when I don't need help or are looking for a specific resolution.

If you want to look at my progress, you can watch this page.
Status as of this writing is: 91% translated, 207 fuzzy strings, 40 strings not translated.

I have a real hope of completing this in a few weeks, this time. 8)

- Never, NEVER use a sound which have less than 22khz
The wiki already says that the minimum is 44kHz.

I can try to make such tool, all I need is a description of the saved games files.
That would be an awesome feature.

May I suggest you use the same license for the tool as the game use, the "GNU GPL version 2 or later". That way it will be included in the various distributions as well. :)
