Discussion / Re: About msgids and po files
« on: September 17, 2011, 05:08:25 pm »
I'm not sure what you ask. The msgids of po files are updated via script from time to time by the Team. Translators should translate msgids to msgstrs with PoEdit.

You can find current translation (*.po) files here.

Please, read our Translating article for more info.

Perfect, thank you!

I was asking because some of the (german) translations were missing the PO-Files.

Sounds and Music / Re: Thank you for exellent music

My answer here is overdue. The music is excellent, keep it that way! Couldn't be better! It is moody and mysterious with a dark undertone, perfect for a game like Ufo:AI.
<- This guy always loved Ambient and similar genres.

I have a related question and I thought it would be better to bring this thread to the top than making a absolutely new one. Finally I've decided to get Poedit running but right now I'm a bit puzzled about how to work with it. There are a nice deal of UFO:AI entries missing the PO-Files, and I'd like to help adding them. The files or "catalogues" seem to have been chosen because of their format I assume... and my question is: what do we have to add, which rules should we keep in mind when copying (or writing) entries with the Po-Editor?

And: Is there a sample Po-File I could look into? It would clear things up a lot. I've done a forum search and checked the Sourceforge link (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ufoai) and couldn't find one (maybe I was just too lazy-eyed).

User modifications / Re: More WEAPNZ

I like the idea of more weapons very much, although as long as a good supply of "standard guns" is available not top-priority. If implemented this could be used to play a bit with different attributes to make the weaponry more versatile as in "the right gun for the right job". Thinking a bit further this could mean sniper rifles which are more accurate depending on how far the target is away so different rifles are working differently good at sniping an enemy in a certain range. Or assault rifles which can do more or less damage according to their actual "ROF" (rate of fire).

Gee I hope my english was good enough so everybody can understand what I wanted to say with this post  ;D.

I think this is the most appropiate thread for my feedback... this is going to be so DAMN GREAT when it is finished. The newest screenshots are eye-candy for me, still can't await the next "real" release. Checking out the current 2.3 development version now, don't know if I can help much more besides the german translations I'd like to do if something new comes up. Will take a look into the map editor then, can't promise anything but I'll give it a try.

Also I'm doing a bit of PR ;), many of my friends liked the old X-Com Games so I have told them to check this out for sure.

Thanks again to the whole team and all contributors!

Design / Re: Some ideas, what to add into game :)
« on: February 13, 2010, 12:24:10 am »
Sorry for reviving this thread, but I thought I could give some input also.

To 1): I think that wouldn't be very useful to the game and logic itself. Of course, the aliens & the UFO would be devastated but at what expense? Rather your soldiers would fight to death than to blow the place up without a battle, at least that's what I'm thinking.

To 2): Hm maybe a idea to save staff and could make sense, but I doubt too many players would use it. I'll just leave this decision to the coder-staff  ;D.

To 3): I agree, nice idea. But as I see it there should be a certain system to do it, maybe place some traps you have built/bought before the battle in the first round before PHALANX/The aliens move. To think this a bit further, regardless of the types of the traps there should prolly be a limit of useable traps or a expected failure rate... the traps could make a base defense mission a bit too easy.

To 4): Reminds me a bit of Ufo: Aftershock or what it was named. Hmm I don't know if this would be good in the campaign for Ufo:AI but something to keep in mind.

To 5): When I think back to Ufo: Enemy Unknown some of their missions already were Kamikaze missions :D. I'm not too fond with that idea, just too less excitement.

Translating / Re: German Translation on The Alien Strategy done
« on: February 13, 2010, 12:02:02 am »

English version (just for the non-germans):
@Bartleby: I think that would make sense.
@Borsti67: Did you mean me with your posting from the 11th February or was there a different problem with already-done translations?
@All: I hope I haven't put too much writing errors in my translation? I know, everything can be fixed but I intend to submit more translations in the future and I'd like to do them correct right from the first entry.

hi - thanks for your translation.

the translation "freundschaftliche Nachricht" isn't very nice imo - also please don't use Alien in the german translation, but "Außerirdische"

Hi,

I have reedited the messages, the beginning of the proposal should be a bit nicer now and I have changed "Alien"-parts to "Außerirdische".

Translating / German Translation on The Alien Strategy done
« on: February 09, 2010, 10:29:10 pm »
Hi everybody,

since I'm a new contributor/translator I thought it'd be good have a quick stop on the forums. First of all I made a newbie error by translating a bit of something with a unfinished source text. It was the (german) entry to the "Heavy Nanoplate Suit" (Link: http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Equipment/Armour/Heavy_Nanoplate_Suit). Of course I saved the bit I translated to my HDD and I will be able to resupply/reintegrate it once the source text is finished.

Then I began and finished a german translation on the "The Alien Strategy"-Research-Entry.

Link for the english source:
http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Research/The_Alien_Strategy
Link for the german entry:
http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Forschung/Die_Strategie_der_Au%C3%9Ferirdischen

I hope everything was done in a correct way by my side and also my insertion of a few common german phrases is deemed ok.

So finally I want to thank the complete UFO:AI-Team and all contributors for their work. I'm looking forward to the coming release with great anticipation!
