I have also trouble with current revision on 2.3, svn info says:
Last Changed Author: geever
Last Changed Rev: 31036
Last Changed Date: 2010-07-17 11:30:22 +0300 (L, 17 juuli 2010)
But "svn up" says it's at 31040.

Ubuntu 10.04 is system.

I can play my first round on battlescape and then it crashes in alien turn.
Error on console:

Take it easy! I know we - Estonian computer minded people - are too used to using computers in English, but games (particulary UFO:AI) have so much not computer related text that I think its nice to have games translated. By my opinion translation is not needed for everyday applications but there are also people who need it. For example my mother is German language teacher and her English is not so good, she is using Linux with translated GUI for 3 years now and its better so. Its much better to have Estonian GUI for older people who are not used to using computers. Some people are even making special distribution of Linux for Estonia - Estobuntu - modified Ubuntu. Okay, its not only for translation propose but also for adding ID-card support for banking and using different services, I know. We - Estonians - are lucky that our language is more using international words, localized forms of English words and so on. Poor Finnish have everything translated fully and it makes understanding quite tough, I know its preserving language better, but I dont care so much about national things.

Quality of Estonian translation of UFO AI is disturbing me when I install it on my Ubuntu laptop, so I even worked on translation to make it better. Okay, I can choose English as default language, but default is Estonian because local settings.

I tried to correct some on this bad Estonian translation, but its quite big. There are so-so many things not yet translated and strange ways that translation has been made before - someone has added numbers to names of weapons for example. I'm willing to help to make it better as I have experience as working journalist and have studied humanitarian arts in college, so on language part I'm at least partially competent.

Discussion / Re: On RAR and PDF Files Attachment in Forum
« on: May 31, 2009, 11:15:03 am »
7zip is nice packer, it supports threads and so on, but its file is practically unrepairable on damage. In most cases its not a problem, but still sometimes when getting files from internet they could get damaged. PDF is very open closed source format, practically everyone could make it with OpenOffice.org or PDF printer. ODT format has also issues between OpenOffice.org 3 and 2 versions, not to tell about uncompatible ODT filter for MS Office 2007 which was introduced just some weeks ago with SP2 by Microsoft and forced Open Document Alliance to claim that its implementation is not compatible. Do we support SVG as illustration format? I think SVG is good format and can be a very good explanation when needed. Unfortunately it is not very widely supported yet as output, but most webbrowsers support it nicely.

With this build I had some other issues. Sometimes during battlescape geoscape appeared, on hiting Esc for moment I could still see battlescape, but very shortly. Console wont work anymore, it starts to drop but will be seen only on upper screen for very short time. "OnMouseOver" functions of geoscape will work somewhat, but otherwise game freezed. I told about this in IRC on tuesday, maybe someone has already done something.

In battlescape only trouble is that unloading Firebird is only working through one side of craft - from front. Otherwise it worked well on Athlon X2 5600+ (2900 mhz version) and Radeon HD 3850 / win xp.

Offtopic / Re: TrueSpace going bye-bye on Friday the 22nd...
« on: May 21, 2009, 11:50:57 am »
They bought TrueSpace to compete with Google Skechup and give 3D content to MSN Live Maps and its 3D counterpart which will compete with Google Earth. Seems that Microsoft will end competition in mapping side now, they will just give up. Its remembering me my last job experience - I worked for computer magazine which was bought by big company, run for one and half year all together with 7 other magazines (business, cars, life etc) and then they closed all magazines at once. It's life! Who has money don't know how to make things work, he just spends it. Too often.

Feature Requests / Re: Waypoint launcher like in X-com
« on: April 20, 2009, 10:21:59 pm »
I would also like to have such weapon. Waypoints count should not be higher then 3 or 4, but it should be heavy weapon and costly ammo. Soldiers should hold only up to 3 or 4 shots for it, like anti-tank weapons like Carl Gustav. XCOM Apocalypse had also powerful launcher at end but it had only one waypoint. Other possibilty is to implement something like Homing Missile from Worms. UFO is not an artillery game, I know - but some kind of indirect artillery fire would make game much better in later stages were enemies are really tough. Unfortunately we still have no really tough enemies (2x2 monsters and something like lobstermen?).
You know, South Korea decided to field 20 mm calibre programmable grenade launcher. On side of weapons soldiers can program how long distance rounds will travel before they will explode. With such weapons can easily kill targets behind corners or cover. Its current technology on simple small grenade launcher, heavy antitank weapons currently wont allow this, but in few years it will be possible. Also rounds with IR target recognicion. In reality they will probably be forbid because they could hit civilians, but its possible to make.

i would like to translate in latvian, but my language has many diacritic ē;š;ī marks; does the game engine support display of such items?

I think you can try it out - do some translation and then compile. Because there seems to be no Latvian translation in moment, then you should make new translation file - look at wiki in http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Translating#Generate_new_language_file

Translate some sentences with diacritic marks, try to be sure before were they are used and search through .po file for double too. Then compile - in Linux through terminal "make" and "make lang" - last one is important for language files compilation and will show that you have done changes.

Estonian, with only õ and ž as rare characters.

Discussion / Re: Missing interceptors
« on: March 01, 2009, 10:46:03 am »
Are you playing version 2.2.1 or 2.3 version? I dont recall that in 2.2.1 pilots were needed for interceptors.

2.2.1 version and also 2.3 point release bugs are not to be reported anymore. Only on bugs in development edition or really new point releases (some weeks) can be fixed because since 2.2.1 code has been heavily reworked. Exact code revision number would be most helpful.

Discussion / Re: Basic Questions on modding pk3 (& other) Files (2.2.1)

In moment - all teams - this means Phalanx, civilians and aliens - are limited to 8 actors. This is to be changed in future.

Windows / Re: Garbled graphics
« on: February 21, 2009, 06:45:39 pm »
2.3  may be much better with Intel graphics, because it has been reworked and focus is not anymore on fixing bugs on 2.2.1 versions. Compile and check out 2.3 and report if there are errors!

Version 2.2.1 is not anymore in work. Because almost everything has been changed in between, this version bugs dont make any sens now. Check out 2.3 development version if you want to be helpful.
