Mac / Re: OSX installers

I managed to the game to run, much to my surprise but I entered the battlescape in fullscreen and it crashed.
Console said segmentation fault, but I've uploaded a log file, I don't know what to cut out and what not to, so it was too long to post in a code (over 2k characters).

Edit: Further testing reveals that it HATES the 'country' maps and crashes without fail on them. I'd assume the same problem. Both with and without fullscreen.

Ok, this was so absurd I just had to post it, if not for notification then for the laughter that this incident received.
This on the Mac Development Build r28016 so things might have changed blance wise since then, but still, one way or the other I simply had to share this.

So on a mission in some place, might have been Berlin, not really sure. Either way standard terror mission, aliens and a ship, early in the campaign, like second or third mission. So I'm busy looking for all the aliens that aren't holing up inside the cockpit
and making my mission a bit more annoying by being hard to kill before they get off a flurry of shots before I have a chance to even though I am the ambusher. But I digress.

So I have a grenadier and a sniper working their way along the open ground, there's nothing there and everywhere else is cleared so it seems. Until A Taman pops out from the far side of the ship and lots off a couple of shots which miss. So I perch my sniper behind a couple of crates and have my grenadier run into the safety of a little hut building thing. The Taman can't see her, and has to cross a fair amount of open ground which the sniper has covered. If it survives that then I can pop out and blow it up. Easy win, right?

Well... The Taman goes first to the cover of a big grey thing that looks like a computer. My sniper fires off a shot, misses. Fair enough. Next turn, comes out of cover, has to cross all that ground, sniper time. Two or three shots, all of which my sniper dutifully misses. Taman goes aorund the corner, into cover. Gotcha, I have the grenadier right around the corner. I see what you're doign and I'm going to beat you at it, ha ha! So I swing her out, she takes about seven steps, ends up with 13 Time Units left. There are two tiles between her and the Taman. Aimed shot- airburst, in the face. That's pretty much a grenade at point blank range. She was just outside of her own blast radius. Taman is just standing there as if a particularly stiff breeze had rolled over it.

It's response was to nonchalantly sidle up to this poor girl, put it's little blue pistol in her mouth and pull the trigger several times.

My reaction was to gawp at my screen and then laugh.
This little alien is invincible!

Nice, I'll download it and give it a spin!

Edit:
it works fine. Apart from a couple of sound glitches (sometimes an effect doesn't fully play, or doesn't play at all) it runs well.
But whoah! The difficulty ramped up something mad, even on Easy mode. First battle I went into I had to play through several times to get anywhere and even then one of my guys died because of that little sod hiding in the cockpit and refusing to come out. The aliens have really good initiative. It's far more challenging now, far more intense too, especially those guys in the landed ships. Very rarely seem to get through those raids without a casualty. Still, I'll crack them in the end.

One thing I love is the base attack missions, it was awesome to see my base laid out in 3D like that.

Edit Edit: I hear the balance is way off kilter, which makes sense now. I still can't kill all the aliens in the cockpit without loosing at least one guy.
Another bug I have found is the grenade launcher impact marker doesn't go away, it duplicates itself onto the map and stays there. it becomes very disorienting.

Go to 'go to folder" in finder and type in `/.ufoai it should take you there. I think there isn't a way to make it better at the moment once it screws like that. I have since given up until the next release.

Mac / Where are the UFO AI save files located?
« on: December 15, 2009, 02:22:42 am »
My version of UFO AI seems to have corrupted, none of the text shows up in research and intro for some odd reason, and it's actually quite annoying. So I thought if I did a fresh install it'd wipe everything. Not so, it still remember my old save, and that's where things started to go wrong, as it was fine until I exited mid battle. So I now want to eradicate all preferences/saves/etc but they aren't in the usual places such as the library.

So where exactly are these save files?
