Translating / Redone French .po file translation
« on: October 15, 2009, 02:49:23 pm »
I've just updated anonymoulsy (registration failure at sourceforge) the french .po file. And I have some questions about it ... Let's look at them :

Some text is present in the wiki, but not in the .po file I've downloaded :
Quote
alien_antimatter_missile_txt
nano_heavy_armour_txt
bolterrifle_mag_txt
plasrifle_mag_txt
ufo_battleship_txt
ufo_alienmothership_txt
alien_launcher
craft_electronics_ew_suite_txt
ugv_ares_txt
ugv_ammo_ap_rounds_txt
ugv_ammo_fp_rounds_txt

Some underscored phrases are in the .po file, but not in the wiki
If you download the .po file i've uploaded, you will find about 40 lines with phrases containing underscrors (all marked untraducted, or fuzzy).
What to do with them ?
here are some examples :
Bomber_city
nation_unhappy
skill_heavy
mail_equipment_order_received
xaw95_txt
chaingun_txt
shotgun_txt
b_radar_adv_txt
[/quote]
I guess some of them are new stuff from dev, but some of them should be added to the wiki List of msgid ... can someone take a look ?

Need help understanding some parts
Finally, being at work, I can translate, but I can not play around, and at home, I'm very busy at the moment, so I can not check what I'm doing ...  And some terms, are hard for me to translate, as they are not english ...

Translating / Re-doing some translations in French
« on: October 05, 2009, 04:09:02 pm »
Hi, I'm actually working (since I have time to, this will not last long) on translating in French.
First, I completed some new Translations, directly in the Wiki ... Then, I started to read what had been done ... and so many texts were just drag'n'drop from an automated translation tool ... No soul ... Some parts did not make any sens.  So I started rebuilding all texts in the Wiki.

Now, I've Finished reading again the FAQ on translation, but I still have questions ...

1) Translation and po files
If I have well understood, text in the Wiki is just extracted directly to the game ... and the .po files just contains menu translations ...

2) automated extraction
I guess when you want to inject the translation in the game, the headers are extracted and filtered directly from SQL ...  Could you explain if there is anything to take care of when writing a wiki entry ... like taking care of '= headlines =' or anything else ... are text automaticly cleaned or is one doing this manually ?

3) At the end of a msgid Wiki translation text, there is a '= Research Tree Data =' and some times a '==Links==' menu.  Do they have to be perfect ?  Or is this only for reference ?  I've notticed some differences time to time

4) Am I doing things right ? :)

Thx
Zamoth
