We would need more information to properly find the gap (we have to manually build a shell around the aircraft to block weapon fire). Which map, what were the locations of your soldiers and the locations of the aliens? Otherwise it's like finding a needle in a haystack.
I just ran across a similar issue:



My soldier (highlighted by the green selector box) was standing clearly inside the dropship, and was shot by the alien in the far top-left corner. There should be no way my soldier could get hit from the visual look of the dropship, but I guess the magic bulletproof box doesn't extend as far as the image of the ship does.

2013-May-21 win32

I tried to auto-mission a landed UFO (Harvester), and the game crashed to desktop, with the UFOAI console up and flashing this in red:

Can't right-click the checkbox to remove characters from the employee pools? I don't know if it will help, but trying shouldn't hurt.
It does affect load time.

I took my worst-case end-game savefile and purged all the not-hired employees (I lost count, but there were several hundred of them, maybe 300-500 or so?, including soldiers, pilots, workers, scientists). I left the 151 active/hired employees as-is.

Before, load time with all employees (both active and inactive):

The "hurt", of course, is that I no longer have those employee candidates in the pool to choose from if I want to hire more employees.

Load time seems directly related to number of employees: I eliminated about 75% of my labour pool and reduced load time by about the same amount.

I'm not sure what the problem was, but I tried deleting the whole installation folder and re-installing from the full installer I had already tried above, and it seems to work fine now. Sorry for the false alarm.

I had been trying binaries-only.

Today I downloaded the binaries-only, and the full installer, and both had the same result as before. Crash to desktop, nothing useful in ufoconsole.log

Any further suggestions?

I downloaded today's binaries and the problem persists, so it wasn't just a compilation glitch.

Yes, ufoconsole.log just contains two lines, always the same two lines, but the timestamp at the start of each line is changed on each launch, so it must be clearing the file and rewriting the log on each launch.

The path noted in the log (C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\UFOAI/2.5-dev/base/keys.cfg) is correct (mixed slashes aside), but that directory does not contain keys.cfg

I just downloaded the latest (2013-May-06) Windows binaries, and the game now crashes on startup. It gets to about 25% of the splash loading screen progress bar, and then crashes to desktop. I reverted to 2013-Apr-17 binaries and confirmed it works fine, also re-downloaded the current binaries just to make sure.

As it crashes to desktop the console is very briefly (0.2s or thereabouts) visible, and I managed to grab a screenshot (attached), but it doesn't show much useful, the last line is "--- parse scripts ---- 57 script files"

My laptop (which machine is the one that runs UFO: AI) is a 2.00 Gb RAM machine. That certainly might explain why my load times are longer than SS's.
But are they? What are you load times like? Despite my high-end machine I'm getting 20-40 second load times.

How many RAM have affected users?
I have 64GB in my machine, so that's extremely unlikely.

Is the nightly compiled in release mode? I so this might be a release-only bug, like the the slow air combat one

Presumably those for whom the load time are working fine are all self-compiled, and those of us who are simply play-testing with the precompiled binaries have the slow load times?

If that's the case, can one of those who have no problem loading try installing a copy of the latest installer and see if slow load times are reproducible that way?
