Discussion / Re: How many bases can you purchase?
« on: July 17, 2010, 04:10:17 am »
Not the answer I was looking for, thanks for the reply though.

I know long before 2.3 came out someone had figured out the optimal spots to put your bases but I can't find the topic anymore.  I don't have enough time to play through and trial and error it.  I just want a list of the best spots to put your bases for the best coverage.

1) On easy level if you manage to have all nations Exuberant you get maximum around 950,000 credits. That is enough to pay monthly expenses for 4 bases. I have built 6 bases so far, so I cannot answer what is the maximum limit. By my experience so far 8 bases should be enough to cover the whole globe with advanced radars. If not less than 8... ;)

Is there a recommended placement for the minimum amount of bases needed to effectively cover the globe?

Simple question.  Just curious when and if monthly progress updates are coming back to the main page.

Well this kind of stinks.  I was hoping to get into 2.3 but after reading all these problems I think I'll just wait until 2.4 and hope for the best.

The trailer is out now, just watched it on IGN.  It looks... good... for a FPS.

I should clarify, the trailer only shows some of the FPS action, but there's a lot more to the game than that.  It has the central XCOM base, which you can roam about freely, where you'll take missions off of a map of America where those missions will be to do things like gather data or rescue people or a bunch of other things.  You can leave the missions anytime you want and return to base.  Using info and artifacts and other things opens up new tech trees at your base to research new weapons and stuff.  The base will also expand over the course of the game but it's not clear if you get to choose how to upgrade it or it just handles that itself.  So there are definitely some core elements of the original XCOM in there.  Sounds pretty good actually, and looks great.

The 1st person view is really good when you want to use it.  I can see taking out features that are game breaking or consume too many game resources, but the ability to use a 1st person view is neither.  It's just a camera angle.  Please keep.

I'd really love to but I'm gonna be working hard again on the Privateer: Parallel Universe project (<- shameless plug) in the coming weeks eating up most of my time.  I can tell you that a lot of the guys there have tons of respect for your mod, a bunch of them have tried it.

Short, sweet, and simple.

Love your game.  Keep up the excellent work, can't wait for 2.3.
