Discussion / Re: Soldiers shooting soldiers

I usually only do single shots and most of the time aimed shots with a green and soldiers are one square to either side of the green line to target.  Their rating with the weapon is 30 or higher and yet I still have a high ratio of shooting my own soldiers.

Hello,

Sorry if this is a repeat, but I did try to search to see if anyone else posted this.  What I want to state is, why are our soldiers so incompetent when firing their weapons.  Seriously, how is it that a soldier firing his weapon, is able to shoot his fellow member when aiming at an alien?  There have been numerous missions where the wounds my soldiers receive aren't from the aliens, but from their own team mates.

I've played various games, UFO Aftermath/Aftershock/Afterlight, etc, and pretty much if they can't shoot without hitting their team member, they don't fire.  Also the fact, I've had members with 95% chance to hit its target and yet, they still hit their own team member.

I've fired weapons, from pistols, rifles, and automatic rifles, and I'm able to shoot around obstacles without hitting them or just don't take the shot.  Star Wars stormtroopers are have more common sense and dexterity to not hit their own members, yet the Phalanx team members seem to have no problem shooting their own team mates.

The only time they are able to shoot without hitting their team mates is when they fire during their reaction time.  But seriously, when I select a soldier, then its target and have a high percentage chance to hit, I seem to hit my own team mate that is a mere few feet/meters from me.  If you can't fire and not hit your team member which is next to you, then sheesh you shouldn't have a weapon in the first place.

Discussion / General questions.
« on: April 19, 2014, 01:40:16 pm »
I've been enjoying the game 2.4ver and remembering my X-com playing days.  One thing though, how come no aliens ever die when their ship crashes?  No offense, but if its shot down, there is a general chance of them being injured or dead when it crashes.

Also I know you stated before about not being able to include destroyable content, like walls, fences and stuff, like they have in the X-com games.  But how about having things explode if you hit them, like gas pumps at the gas station or if you hit the power source in the alien ship.

I've also noticed, sometimes when there is air combat, some battles goes very smoothing, then other times there are long lags, the game seems to almost want to stall during the air combat.  Would be also nice if you could include choices on how the air combat is to be done, aggressive, cautiously, etc.

There are also times I noticed that the aliens tend to target one person, it could be the furthest one away or in a midst of a group, but all seem to concentrate on that one soldier.  Other times, I see aliens getting out 4 to 6 snap shots in one combat turn.

Some of my more experience soldiers, who should have a really sharp reaction times, always seems to shoot after they target an alien and prepare to shoot.  I've had several soldier, during my turn, start to shoot at a target and then have that target get in the first shots.  Is there any proper balance with reaction times and alien to soldier initiative?

Thank you for all your hard work on this game.  I've been trying it out since 2.1 ver came out.

Discussion / equipping your team

Hello,

Sorry if this might be a repeat, I've tried searching, but not sure how to word the search parameters.  Anyways, while equipping your units for their mission, it would be nice to only show weapons and armor that you have on site, instead of seeing both items you have and not have.  There are weapons I don't bother to purchase or use and I always see them in the equipment screen even though they are darkened out.

Also for some items like sidearms and grenades and medkits, would be nice when you right click on them, that they go to other areas besides the hands.  For example, the medkit automatically goes in the back pack, the grenades go on the belt and sidearms goes in the holster.

Again, sorry if this is a repeat, but I honestly did search the forums.

My units all have ammo loaded.  When I mouse over the alien, I get a red box over the mob.  I can't do anything else to the alien.  I played the 2.2.1 version and never had any problems.  Just when doing the mission in 2.3, I can't do anything to the target.

I could be right next to the alien, plenty of time units, fully locked and loaded, but I can't shoot the mob.

Hi all,

This may be a stupid question, but how do you shoot?  I played the 2.2.1 version and never had any problems to target a mob and shoot.  I just installed the 2.3 and when I mouse over an alien, even its almost pointblank I can't shoot it.  My guys have the time to shoot, but I can't get the game to shoot them.  Reaction fire works and they shoot if they see it, but I can't manually shoot.  I'm not using a joystick, so everything is either mouse or keyboard controlled.  Thank you.

Discussion / Re: 2.2 Release: Dead Civilians count?
« on: April 29, 2008, 01:50:41 am »
Hi,

I really like the changes made with this version, except for the civ count.  There have been several missions where I couldn't save any civs.  Even if I had my troops go running in and a lot of them gets wiped out, I still can't save the civs, since the first few rounds the aliens have already shot half of them.

You really need to get rid of that civ count and just apply their deaths to the supporting country's happiness  in their support.  I have tried many different tactics to save the civs, but still, by the time my troops get deployed and out where the aliens are hiding, most of the civs are dead.

At least in the X-com games, you had 5 to 10 rounds to get your troops out and about before civs got killed and at least those civs did make an attempt to run away from the aliens, instead towards them.
