Feature Requests / Re: 2.6 - Radar coverage is very unclear

Sorry for posting in the wrong place, Duke - I remembered that v2.4 used to feature radar lines and I assumed they were removed on purpose.

Glad to hear the problem was fixed!

Thanks :D

Feature Requests / 2.6 - Radar coverage is very unclear

As of v2.6, it's very hard to tell the exact range of radar coverage when pressing the appropriate button.

I think that if the radar-covered area were circled in red that would help a lot.

Extensive use of Radar Towers will allow you to fight a lot of battles and recover a lot of UFOs - which means a lot of stuff for sale.

Radar Towers are cheap. Radar Towers are good. Radar Towers are your best friends - ex aequo with sniper rifles :D

How do you lose?

Aliens wiping out your bases or funding nations discontinuing support of PHALANX project?

Sniper rifle.

Cheap, powerful, accurate.
You get it right away since mission one, and you get plenty of mags for sale.
Two hits are enough to kill an alien NME.
And the risk of collateral damage to civvies is rather low (accidents do happens, though).

Nice to hear it will require more TUs to operate in 2.5 - this will help balance it with other weapons.

I think three base could suffice. Building a fourth gets you more installation slots though.

I like to build my first base near Istanbul, the second one on the UA/RC border and the third one in Indonesia. Should you need a fourth base, Congo is a suitable location.

With three bases and radar towers, you should able to monitor most of the land on the planet, save for Antarctica.
With four bases and radar towers, you WILL be able to monitor EVERY single square inch of the planet - save for Antarctica, again. Who cares for those penguins anyway :D

First one is a mixed base, second or third one a research base.

Base defending is actually rather easy. Just make sure every single base you own has eight healthy soldier wearing combat armors.
You will need them, because - unlike in UFO:EU - aliens ARE going to find out where your bases are, even if you don't launch a single interception mission (that's what happens to me, at least).

Always go in with a squad of 8. You will seldom lose more than a single soldier if you stick to the book, but accidents DO happen.

And when half of your team gets wiped out, you want to have the another half to complete the mission :D

Hmm. I only completed a single campaign on VH level - after a single abortive attempt - so your mileage might vary.

This said, I built a single UY in the game - the remaining installation were Radar Towers.
This way I was able to monitor large portions of land for upcoming ground missions.

As for intercepting UFOs larger than Scouts, you'll need to outfit Stilettos with particle beam weaponry and laser cannon to shoot them down without any risk.
But you don't really need to do that until later in the game. Do every single mission, win every single mission and the funding nations will be happy with you.

Of course it can get tedious - and when it gets to the infamous "mansion near the coast" it surely does! - but it's your best bet to keep them from abandoning the project.

I find the MG useful in base defending missions. It's more deadly then the assault rifle in close quarters, and has a longer range than the flamethrower.

Otherwise, when it comes to PHALANX base man-portable weaponry, I'd stick to sniper rifles and flamethrowers.
