Gameplay is pretty much piss easy as it is. If you ignore the fact that the game won't spawn a single UFO in sight of your base untill half the planet surrenders.
Having to build your own versions of their guns wouldn't actually be all that bad.

Systems that could probably be broken after the device is fully examined by the professional staff in the lab.

Yes, but that doesn't necesarily make the device useless or unnecesary at all, in fact aliens seem to have the tecnology prowess and manufacturing power to make masive deployments of such a countermeasure without even sweating.

Sorry to butt in, but I always thought that maybe an inteligent enemy such as an alien species that uses anti matter engines would have forseen humans using their weapons, and thus devise a fingerprint or dna check system to apply on the wielder.
After all they already use a device such as this on the Plasma G.

I concur that alien weapons used by humans should incurr in heavy accuracity problems, massive reloading times and that an adaptation for humans should be made available through research. This should make gameplay a lot harder, granted, but I would consider this to be a minor setback in the overall campaign progress once the hole story is developed.

If you send twos, you can have one as a bait while the other shoots it down. No damage whatsoever.

Fighters attack sporadically, the best tactic is always sending two, one will return with 30% of it's integrity down.
You can use the second one in an emergency (which happens a lot on the later stages.

Yes, armor is worth it.

I usually have two stilletos on my interception/tac mission bases, and two sarracen on production bases, all equiped with ecm, targeting comp and armor (no alien).

Armor will make your ships slower, that's true but it's really not a big deal to loose a single fighter just because it got too far away, normally you get a chance to intercept even with the differences in speed, and in the later stages of the game when you have almost the full earth covered in bases speed for interception is completely useless, I can track any ufo over all land masses and intercept wherever I want, whenever I want.

Dropships are to drop on tac ops, nothing more, you can even use them as decoy to tease some fighter ufo and lure it into a trap (sometimes the game tries to ambush your dropship, poor bastards then try to engage the droppy and I just blast it to hell using escorting ships... they will never return fire, they just go for the first ship they target...move that ship around and that's it).

I switched to it a couple of hours ago.

Headz missing, but that's not the worst. For some reason I cannot enter the battlescape (missions), as soon as I press the enter mission button and the map is drawn I get kicked out to the geoscope view immediately.

This is of course using the 2.4 saves I have around.
Had to re-install 2.4 release to keep playing  :(

Good to know, I think I can live with that.

Will try to update tonight, or maybe tomorrow.
Thanks.

You're getting nice maps, I hate this bug on 2.4 version that's making me go round all the same maps over and over again.

Will 2.5 dev run my 2.4 release saves if I install it?

I recently started up a campaign of the 2.4 version and I was shocked that three point blank shots from the GL flechettes did not take down an unarmored (at least I think it was unarmored) Taman. I remember a time where I killed a heavily armored Ortnok with the same blast 3 squares away.

Must be the same problem that with the Flechette for the shotgun, I remember having a GL guy crouching near the entrance of one of my Large hangars during a base mission (on 2.4 dev) with RF on 3 shots, an Ortonok entered through the entrance and received the 3 shots directly to the chest... I think it was 4 blocks away, but it stood strong, next thing was a dead GL guy and a me going like  ???

Then I learned never to use flechettes again, as a matter of fact I don't even buy that ammo for the GL any more, and the Riot Shotgun is a no go as well in my current campaign.

So what are they for then?, I presume they are useful in some kind of situation if not they'd not be there.

Flechette are supposedly better against armored targets IIRC, so If I go full auto against an ortonok with armor 3 squares away it should be a kill or almost a kill right?
