I put in AI too. One may say that rhino approach to tactics aliens use is justified given their numerical and technological superiority, but it gets boring when you can predict their moves with a margin of error no greater than 1-2 squares. Also, they show profound lack of teamwork, which contradicts lore.

Question is - what do forum members equip CRC guys with to deal with non-point blank encounters?

I prefer to split roles in squad and equip my CRC guys with teammates to do long-range fighting for them. Instead of wasting TU trying to snipe someone with pistol it's more viable to try and close range in my opinion.

How do you do with CRC soldiers? What are your tactics and preferred weapons in early, mid and late game?

Two words: Plasma Blades. Extremely powerful one-hand weapon for extremely short range. One blade can take out pretty much every alien, save for late-game heavily armored ones.

iirc, ranks are awarded for Mind skill. The higher it ism the higher the ranks, anything else irrelevant. Killing civilians stalls the mind skill and prevents future promotions.

Not completely correct. Promotion to next rank happens after a mission if two thresholds are met: Mind stat and enemy kill count. Game also checks(or at least checked last time I researched it) civilian and squadmate kill count - if it's too high, promotion doesn't happen.

No other limitations exist - if you're dedicated enough, you can get an army of colonels. Rank is just a badge though and doesn't influence anything.

TL;DR: take soldier on missions, kill aliens, don't kill friendlies, get ranks.

I've noticed this 'concentrated fire' behavior too. In my experience, aliens were targeting soldier with highest ordinal number possible(#8, then #7, etc).

This topic should probably be moved to bugs subforum and issue should be filed in bug tracker.

AFAIR these materials are extremely durable. I'd make a laptop or cell phone case from them, or maybe a f-ing chair that wouldn't break after three month' usage.

Hello.

First, I want to apologize for necroposting.

Second, I'd like to point out that even though nearly a year has passed, no one bothered to make(or include) bleeding icons.

Third, I present you a set of icons i prepared today. They are 16x16 and follow current style of "exclamation mark" icon. I have separate hi-res sources for each, so rearranging them or adding to another image (like it's done in /base/pics/banks/pack_message.png) won't be a problem.

The game can't always tell exactly which tile you are trying to select.
That's especially noticeable on Convoy Ambush map. With all those hills, cliffs and rope bridge I had hard time pointing box cursor at particular tile.
