Tactics / Re: What are PHALANX supposed to be? I.D.I.O.T.S.?

Yah i went on playing after my post. Still having the same issue. Thanks for the tip on grenade launcher and explanation of RF.

The problem is for example terror mission. You start on open and see 4 or 3 aliens. what do you do? OK Option one you shoot at them. but your team misses every time. There is no cover and on alien turn at least 3 members are injured if no one is dead yet.
I have one guy dying on every mission. Option two is to run for cover first. doesn't help because cover is so far away that plenty of them still get injured before arriving to cover. I managed to get really really close to the aliens but this is ridiculous. i mean to be so close with sniper rifle and use aimed shot and then you miss. And there is a nice probability (that might not be totally accurate) shown for oyu. if it sdays 99% shouldn't you hit the guy? sort of...

Ugh wish i had my old team from previous version. they werent' much yet, but at least they could hit....

Seriously what happened here?

We have an "elite" unit assembled by the earth governments to fight the aliens because the army couldn't do anything (wish i saw the army, can they even hold the rifle?).

I mean these guys can't hit absolutelly anything. I tried to go through the soldiers and find best i could to deploy. I played the previous version till i got stuck in campaign, so i know i could expect some losses but this is getting ridiculous.

as alway i first start on very easy. expecting it to be more of a walk in the park. but my soldiers can't hit an alien unless they are basically point blank to them. while aliens can hit me from very far away. reaction fire is rubish. even if soldier kneels and doesn't move the alien keeps popping out shoot him and then goes back. what is this supposed to represent? what does this say about soldiers?

I move my best sniper guy to an average room length (using cover as much as i can). he is crouched, aimed shot- chance of hitting is 9%. move him a bit closer. ah now chance increases to 22%. seriously ? 22%?!? Sniper "expert", from Earth's best (on VERY EASY difficulty level)? I understand the need to make the game interesting. and the option to upgrade the soldiers. but if the soldiers are crapy so should be the aliens. i9nstead they can easilly hit my soldiers from across the whole map.

In original UFO the hit ratio was sort of low as well but explosive round made up for lack of accuracy. plus the aliens there had even lower acuracy (at least the very basic ones). here you are left with a lack of accuracy. Which as i notice is much bigger than in previous release version.

So i would like some tips on how to proceed and if anyone knows if there is a way to fix the numbers in some file or something. because i got stuck on very easy on 3rd mission (&first terror site) with primary aliens (the orange suited guys). they just wiped out my whole squad (from their edge of the map and).

And i also have a tip of my own. very easy, should be very easy for beginners not very easy for experts in the game that have a lot of background knowledge. so to the game testers when you are testing new version make sure you get the opinion of a person that met with the game for the first time.

Windows / Re: Can not hire any more personal (game broken)

Understood. It a great yet difficult remake. I will download the advised version and try to come to the so called temporary end :-)

BTW i don't think you are so far from the finish. Ok a few bugs to iron out, some game balancing issues, a few models still missing... But all in all even the 2.2.1 looks quite decent.

If only the game is fully playable and then you could work on bug fixes (just like in the commercial gaming industry).

He is a small suggestion from me - as i see there need to be more armour models and also tank vehicles. My opinion on this is that missing armour could be sort of similar maybe just different in colour (that way game is made playable and can be modded or added later). Also "tanks" - are they really necessary? As is now the game seems quite interesting. And as i remember in originals, tanks were kind of overkill especially later in game. I mean no panic, no moralle losses, high health & armour...

So if i understand correctly you are advising me to switch to a test release because this bug can not be solved? Basically remove this (stable) version including saved games from my hard disk?

And the test version - can you reach the end in that game or does it also feature game breaking bugs? I know there are plenty of things still missing (tanks etc...) but i was hoping it is at least possible to finish the game.

Windows / Can not hire any more personal (game broken)

Hello, I am following the development every now and then so i went ahead and downloaded latest stable release 2.2.1. With exception of a few minor bugs and glitches (inlcuding certian CTDs) i progressed in game. Untill i ran into a bug that seems to have broken my game.

I can not hire anymore people because my crew quarter are full (the game says) however if i fire a few people i still get the same message and can not hire more personel (not even same the ones that just got fired). Is there a workarround/solution/fix for this bug? Because if there isn't i can not continue as i will slowly run out of soldiers

I also have a question - are the save games going to be compatible with new version?
Also what is the point of the interceptor battles being so hard to win even on super easy mode? I read in forums that it will be even harder in new version.

Still great game you guys made... And you came a long way since i first tried it. Only wish the bugs (at least the big ones) are ironed out soon.

Discussion / Questions, questions...
« on: April 12, 2006, 08:20:29 am »
Hi all!

I downloaded the game and yesterday i finnaly got a chance to have a look at it. I didn't notice any manual or mouseover explanation of commands. But then again i din't have the time to look in the files folder yet. I tried to use my knwoledge form other UFO games to at least try and play it. And it worked. I preety soon learned how to handle the controls.

However there are still some things that are unclear to me. I noticed that there is no save option during the tactical display. Well that's not cool. Yet later when i finished the mission i saw that i got some new recruits. Does that mean that after each mission you get a couple of recruits? Because if so and if i am correct you don't even need the save game that much. So this brings me to my next question: Do the team member progress in their developement (i.e. more missions = better personal ratings)?

I have more questions that popped into my mind and i couldn't find the answers for them quite as fast as i anticipated. First one is why does the programme "strip" my players down? Each got an armour and then the game said items not allowed and took them away leaving my soldiers barehanded. Why does it do this? Same happened on my first mission. As i noticed you already begin with some objects that have to be researched. But it didn't say that laser rifle needs research, so i equiped the soldier with it and it dissapeared.

And this brings me to my next question. How do i research? I've noticed the research button but when i go there there are some items on the left (i believe they are the ones that can be reasearched) but how do i start the reasearch on them? I tried clicking on them, clicking on the tick mark below but it doesn't seem to do anything becaus enothing happens on the scree.

More on research... How do i build additional labs? As it seems to me the research increases by number of labs rather than scientist. Am i correct? But how do i build additional research and production facilities? Are they so expencive that i can't build them? I also notice there are not pictures in UFO pedia for bases. Which doesn't bother me that much, but if there would only be some text explanation would be nice. Instead it just gives some txt filename. I read about the game and it seems it is still very much in developement stage, but still some basic text info (eg. what is gained by building the facility would be reasonable to expect).

Next ones are connected with tactical map.
Is there a way to "reserve" the time units like in UFO?
Two hand weapon - can i hold assault rifle in one and grenade in the other hand at the same time? Or do i need to put the assault rifle on my back when i want to throw a grenade?
Since the rocket is considered to be heavy explosive the range of the explosion seems somewhat limited. I shot the rocket at the red alien (whatever he is called) it passed him and hit the wall right behind him, yet he didnt' die or pass out. Well that's very unusual for high explosion is it not?
Does the heatlh of wounded soldiers always return to full when the mission is over?

So many questions...

But let me say in the end that i think that it is a wonderfull attempt to create an action turnbased game that is in some way based on the classic UFO games. I realise it is still in development stage, but can't wait to see version 1 available. I especially like the fact that even if my computer is old the gam still loads fast. So, keep up the good work! This game really has potentials.
