Discussion / Quick Question
« on: May 03, 2011, 03:36:38 pm »
Is there a development road map anywhere to look at...very interested to see what the developer wants in the finished game.

I read somehwere about deep space boarding...and the developer said it's in for the future...that to me says big additions to the game and I'm interested to see the developers vision...

Thanks

Myself I really wouldn't be interested in a first person viewpoint...lots of FPS games out there for that...not sure how it would help in a turn based game anyway.

I agree on how good this game is shaping upto be and luckly I've had no performance issues.

I understand that but what i'm talking about is not only do they bring in their own weapons but they have a research tree going on in the background and you have no idea what they are investing their research on...thus new tech comes along more randomly be it new engines on their ships to new armour or weapons..at the moment from the few games I've played it looks like the new weapons come along a pre determined times. I'm thinking of trying to add a randomness to what the Aliens come up with next, to always keep you on your toes, rather than knowing say plasma rifle is the next gun they use...yes plasma gun would come along but also depending on what they are researching something else may crop up aswell, again depending on what they are researching under the hood.

Also how is the Alien AI? Would be nice if they ambush and use cover (I did have one in a window waiting)...at the moment it seems they chase civs or come straight at you from the begining...does LoS work for Aliens or can they see everything on the map? not sure if this is in game but would be good if an Alien that shoots you from distance isn't necessarly spotted straight away, depending on which way the target was looking maybe.

Also one day in the future it would be fantastic to try and help with borg spotting. So if the soldier you click on only sees the Aliens in his view and can only fire on aliens he can spot. Finally sound contacts would be great aswell...you could have a floating icon to represent a sound contact.

Again I apologise if some are in game or if I'm not making sense...I thinking of the best turn based\ Wego games I've played and the features that made them special. Especially Combat Mission Shock Force and the old Combat Mission games.

Only started playing last night so forgive me if I sound ignorant.

As with many games it sounds like it gets stale after awhile. After reaidng your requests what about the possibility that the Aliens can upgrade and research new tech, they could for instance be attacking another species in the dpeths of space and researching thier tech...this would add spice and that unkown quality to the game...never knowing when the Alien race develops a new weapon to launch upon you or wears new armour etc...if it was researched based and going on behind the scenes you'd never know what they where reseaching and what would come next even if you got to know a fair amount of the new tech....this would keep you thinking about the future and what may need to be researched just in case they get so and so weapon or armour...

Obviously this would take alot of programming but it's just a thought that hit me whilst reading this post.

Downloaded last night after seeing info on Xenanauts...I have to say I downloaded the 2.4 build and it has blown me away. The quality is first rate...graphics are amazing, much better than any other XCoM style game out there and it's all for free...

I've raved about your game over at The Wargamer and I'm sure the developer would be very welcome to sign up and discuss the game.

I say again the graphic quality is top notch..the UI could be spiced up abit and I found the custom UI looked good but didn't work properly as I had some king of box on one side which showed the mouse cordinates and other info and was putting a red dotted line around things.

Love the geaoscape graphics.

I found I got the game,  especially the battlefield, to look very good by turning the saturation down a fair bit and the contrast and brightness, aswell as the lightmap...at least we had options to change all this though. More options than any other game I've come across for changing the graphic settings. I also kept the LoD box unticked due to bluriness.

Still this is one cracking game that could easily be payware once it's finished...

I shall be playing and following the game with keen interest.

The developer and any other who is helping is very talented indeed.
