Linux / Deleted saved game

Hi all,
I deleted my saved games due to my own stupidity but would like to recover them. I am just not quite sure how to do that. Scalpel and foremost could do the recovery for sure but the headers and footers they are looking for are only valid for the predefined file types, and I don't know what header and/or footer specification I should give.
I would really appreciate any help or suggestion.
PS I use Ubuntu 10.04 and ext3 file system.
