Newbie Coding / How long does compiling usually take (etc) ATM?
« on: July 05, 2010, 02:53:51 pm »
Hi!

Could someone tell me about how long compiling svn/trunk for the first time should usually take at the moment (ver 2.4 something I guess)?

Also, subsequent times (+ ccache) - a lot faster I hope?

Mine's been running for hours and hours now on a dual core 1.86ghz. It's still busy with the maps and I'm beginning to thing that I'll have to abort sooner or later to have it run again on a machine I'm not using as Desktop... anyone tried if it usually survives multiple hibernations (/pm-hibernate)?

thx...

I see... so what you mean is: either you don't know or there is no thread where this has actually been discussed, just at lot of threads where it has been explicitly not discussed? So was all the in-depth talk in IRC or something?

No need to end-of-story-me, that's what I'm looking for, the end of that story! Or the beginning... some part of it, I don't care! I'm not trying to start a discussion, just trying to find the old discussion that has been mentioned in many threads so I can do some catching up.

Enough about discussing discussions... just someone please point me into the general direction of where that "destructible-terrain-not-possible"-stuff was concluded, all suggestions have been made and deemed impossible etc...

Hi!

Sorry, but what I can find with the forum search on this topic are mostly threads that have been closed with the advice to use the forum search... where's the "original destructible Terrain Thread" with all the info about what's possible and what's not?

Like why the spawning of emptyspace-objects isn't possible...
Or why "fancy lighting" seems to have higher priority than destructible terrain...
And stuff....

Everywhere I looked, there has only been said, "this has been discussed to death". But where?

Thanks!

Feature Requests / Re: Soldier selection/order
« on: July 05, 2010, 01:21:25 pm »
It would be nice if the order of the soldiers within the squad could be changed.
IMHO this is really important. For me, not really being able to distinguish my soldiers that well or being disoriented most of the time ("where am I? Who am I? *g*) adds much frustration to the gameplay...

Is there already a thread on details (cannot find ;))?

What I'd really love would be a way to create templates and sub-templates (or A standard template and multiple sub-templates) - just a list of items that should be equipped / in inventory... just one queue, no need to safe the position or anything: I guess that can be done by the same function as "right click - equipping" in the order the items are in the queue, starting with the sub-template as that one should override the standard (think "makro"). One could p.E. add the first aid kit to the standard template and all sub-templates automatically get one too (unless the sub-templates add too many items for there still to be enough room left). And of course the possibility to assign a template to a soldier... maybe even in a way that it gets reequippes / updated every time the vehicle takes off (so because of the way it works, they would automatically without the need for more coding equip weapons that weren't ready before but were higher in the queue for their template).

Guess that would make very fast & versatile management possible... don't the aliens already have something like that (except for the GUI of course)...?

( Gah, Sorre me english, stoopid summer sun keeps boiling my brains ;) )
