Offtopic / Re: Good Ol' Times. Who remembers this ?

I was ubergeek for a week after snarfing up a 1200 baud modem for my Commodore 128 *AND* a brace of 1571 external 5 1/4" drives.  No more disk swaps for this kid, no sirree.  For those that don't know, though, the C= 128 turned out to be the red-headed stepchild of the C= line.  All the kewl developers jumped from the C64 to the Amiga and just totally blew off the 128.  It could do C64 programs so who cared?  With the Amiga we can do umptymillion colors, WOOHOO!

But as a MILSPEC brownie you can bet the farm it'll be edible from -65F to +165F, but Congreff will only approve funding for a dozen that'll have to be issued to Joint Service Commands.   :o

Offtopic / Re: This actually works (try this if you can afford it)!

While working in Kuwait a number of years ago I was a pretty steady customer of a local PizzaHut.  Pretty much every Thursday night I was good for a large Pepperoni lovers.  I'd round up to the next whole bill and have the driver keep the difference.  These guys generally worked for chump change and would send most of that back home to India, the Phillipines, Sri Lanka, etc.  After a few months of this, they'd call me to confirm it was a go for the night and be at the door in a matter of minutes.  About once a month a comped case of soda would be dropped off, as well. Never could convince the manager to try offering a sheep pizza, though, darned things are vermin over there.

Windows / Re: Bailout during load

Merry chase that was, who knew it'd be in a hidden folder.  :-[

Not that I'm beefing or anything, but it's been some time since I've had some ET-looking meatsack lob a grenade into my lander before I can get the seat belts undone...  :D

Windows / Bailout during load
« on: June 20, 2010, 04:12:21 pm »
During video initialization when it gets to this line the load closes too quickly to grab a print. This using the installed desktop shortcut.  If I go in to Start - Programs - and use the shortcut in the UFO:AI folder it gets to the same point and freezes, no keyboard or mouse response, so no way to capture the file there, either, and after about  10 minutes it closes down.

I: set swap control to 0

Gathering that it was some sort of video problem I did update the drivers after the first time, the results have remained the same.  Video is ATI Radeon Express 200, recently updated w/ATI's Catalyst driver pack.  Previous version of UFO:AI worked fine.

I organize my squad into two teams.  Each team has two aslt riflemen, a grenadier and a machine gunner.  All are equipped with the best armor available, IR goggles, medikit, two frag grenades, an SMG w/1 reload as a sidearm.  Each rifleman has an aslt rifle w/1 reload, the machine gunner has a...wait for it...machine gun w/1 reload, and the grenadier has a grenade launcher w/2 reloads.  I'd like to be able to stock add'l weaponry and ammo on the transport in the event the spot I land at calls for different capabilities.

Tactically the grenadier is center of mass of the team, the two rifleman in front and to the sides, the machine gunner usually trails.  The rifleman usually are the ones that stumble into something, back off and let the heavy weapons reaction fire, sometimes finishing off survivors.  As weaponry improves the job titles and tactical roles remain.  The grenadiers are usually the ones that have to grab the SMG when they find themselves in a spot they don't want to bounce a grenade off of. This'd be your basic point-blank surprise.

I'd like to be able to predefine equipment loadouts so that when I replace casualty X I can just say, dude, you're now a grenadier, here's your box of stuff, put it on.
