Title: Tech images
Post by: Unisol on July 27, 2012, 11:48:43 pm
Hello. As per H-Hour's request i've begun throwing together something that might be used as tech images. So far I've got A New Twist (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/new%20twist.png) (source (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/new%20twist.xcf)). Sorry for being so slow - I've had some irrelevant stuff to bogger me.

I've decided to throw green borders out - mostly because of Winter's post (http://ufoai.org/forum/index.php/topic,2890.msg25148.html#msg25148) and because the new UI is here already. They can be easily added though.

I've double checked all stock images used here to be license-compatible. Most are public domain, some are CC-BY-SA-3.0, the rest are created by yours truly.

Also, does anyone have source image of Shevaar autopsy? I didn't see it neither in data_source, nor on forums.

Awesome! Great Tech pic! Cant wait to see more of your stuff. :)

Thanks for the tech image. I have added it with the following license information:

Code: [Select]
base/pics/techs/news_new_twist.png | Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 | Unisol
Please tell me if you have a different name you would like the image to be attributed to.

What element of the shevaar autopsy are you looking for in the source? I've got a source image that has the empty table. But I don't know if we have source for the autopsy itself.

Great idea about the pic.

Sorry for being so slow - I've had some irrelevant stuff to bogger me.

Daytime job? Pfff.  :D

Uhh, thanks for positive replies. In shevaar autopsy I am looking for shevaar corpse itself. For this pic i had to cut it out from tech image and it got a little rugged along the edges.

@H-Hour: License and name are all right.

@ShipIt: Exactly =).

Also, check first post for source image.

Hello again. I've just completed Alien Astrogation (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/alien%20astrogation.png) (source (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/alien%20astrogation.xcf)). A couple of notes:

I'm open for feedback.

Thanks unisol. I'm not in a position at the moment to add this to master. If no one takes care of it within a few weeks, please remind us.

I feel like there should be more cyan... or not?

I would say not. I'm glad you're stepping away from the green used in the current UI, but if you use the same cyan line outlines on all of your tech images, you'll just replace one soon-to-be-unused UI theme with a second never-to-be-used UI theme.

It's not a big deal and I don't think you need to change this image. But maybe worth keeping in mind for future images.

OK, got it. I'll try to diversify colours a bit.

This image (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/alien%20engine.png) is going to be used as part of tech pic for Alien Propulsion. I have spent a decent amount of time creating it, but now i'm out of ideas and it still seems incomplete. Any ideas on what to add/change are welcome.

I think it will work fine.

Thanks Unisol. I've added it and updated your license entries (https://github.com/ufoai/ufoai/commit/deee000e9e8bb772bb88df94566c850d866a4eab).

Hello. I was going to present it as a new year gift, but got off schedule. My only excuse is that internets are slow here. Here's a tech image for Alien Detection (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/alien%20detection/alien%20detection.png)(source (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/alien%20detection/alien%20detection.xcf)). Separate sources for panels: top (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/alien%20detection/top%20panel.xcf), middle (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/alien%20detection/central%20panel.xcf), bottom (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/alien%20detection/lower%20panel.xcf), side (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/alien%20detection/side%20panel.xcf).

List of references to used stock images can be found here (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/alien%20detection/used%20stock%20images). One of them is CC-BY-SA 3.0, others are taken from game files, so i guess they should be license-compatible =)

As always, feedback is welcome.

Hello again. I have something for you: Particle Beam Weapons (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/particle%20beam%20weapons/particle%20beam%20weapons.png) tech image along with its source (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/62073545/ufoai/particle%20beam%20weapons/particle%20beam%20weapons.xcf).

Used stock image: diagram at the top (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Feynman_Diagram_-_Negative_Beta_Decay.png) (public domain).

I have not used patterned background this time, so it may seem dull and featureless compared to other tech images.

As always, feedback is welcome.

Very nice. It has immediatly evocated particles accelerators so with some fast research I've got this : http://www.pd.infn.it/~dorigo/bubblechamber2.jpg. That's close to your design at the bottom of screen, but bigger.
Title: Re: Tech images
Post by: Unisol on February 05, 2013, 08:44:49 pm
Thanks, I guess?

To be honest, I based the particle accelerator at the bottom on PB rifle magasine.

Photo you found looks similar to bottom design because they both are drawn as blueprints =) On the technical side, bubble chamber is usually used as particle detector, while particle accelerator accelerates particles and sets them on collision course. So they are different tools, but both are used in research.
