There are nightly builds in our snapshots (http://ufoai.ninex.info/snapshots/) dir
download (http://ufoai.ninex.info/snapshots/ufoai-latest-win32.exe)
There is also a binary-only package available (http://ufoai.ninex.info/snapshots/ufoai-latest-win32.zip). Use this only if you know what you are doing - as a player you should just use the above linked full-installer.
----
These installers are rebuilt each night - the build-system behind it will also build the final release installers. So testing and reporting problems is very welcome.

Could you clarify what you mean by "Use the update utility in your startmenu to get the latest nightly"? I don't see any option either in the Windows startmenu, the game folder, or the game itself. Is there any way to update? I find myself having to download the full installer.
-
you have to use my installer
the official installer doesnt contain the update utility
-
The Updater is impossible. It took me an hour and half to download ~1GB and install the game. But it takes almost twice as that to update the game! Since I run the updater I cannot minimize, close or have get anyfeedback on what happens since it seem to be stuck on loop of 100MB download, extract, apply wipe info repeat.
The amount of downloaded info(I probably downloaded at least 1GB in updates) and time is ridicules. I am not sure how you do it, but cumulative updates are far better option than whatever this is.
-
The "problem" is the old main installer (1.5 years)
and the "frozen" GUI is intentional
btw.
a cumulative update would be much much bigger
Im using a Multilevel incremental (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incremental_backup#Multilevel_incremental) strategy
I need to build a new main installer and the problem is fixed
-
I meant merging all updates up until now into one cumulative update, but a new main installer will work just as well, thanks.
-
4 those who didn't notice
the main installer is again up2date

Hi, I used to play the 2.3 version and now I wanted to give a try to the 2.4 version. I'm using windows 7 x64.
I downloaded this: Data Data version 2.4 (≈937 MB)
I unzipped the file to find that there is no exe file.
Today I found there is a 1.1GB version which is .exe
I'm not at home now, I can download that version when I get home, but I wanted to know if I can use the files I downloaded just to patch my 2.3 version, so I dont need to redownload the game. If that is possible, will I lose my old campaign? will I be able to play my campaign in 2.3 and the a new campaign in 2.4? will I be able to play the old campaign just in 2.4?
Thank you!
-
... if I can use the files I downloaded just to patch my 2.3 version ...
No. But you can install 2.4 in a seperate folder next to the 2.3 version. Just do not mix them.
... will I be able to play the old campaign just in 2.4? ...
No, the saves from 2.3 cannot be used in 2.4.
-
Thanks for the prompt answer Shiplt
Ok, so I dont know what I downloaded, some "data version" which I cant use and Ill delete if I dont need it. I'll download the full installer when I get home
should I download this 1.1 exe posted here http://ufoai.org/forum/index.php/topic,6302.0.html
Or this 968.7 mb exe downloadable from http://sourceforge.net/projects/ufoai/files/ or http://sourceforge.net/projects/ufoai/files/UFO_AI%202.x/2.4/ ??
Thanks again

Just select the installer from the first section (Stable) of our Download Page (http://ufoai.org/wiki/Download).

Just use

Lately the update goes straight green, without doing any kind of update. I've looked at the commits, and the build bot, and it seems like some kind of revision should be in order. But, the updater just says 'finally after...' and doesn't do anything.
Am I missing something?

Okay, perhaps a better question: If I re-install the full-updater will it start to and update to, today's current build? It works for everyone else right??
-
When I use this tool it only updates to a June build, different from the link on the download page.
Is the tool out of date or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I would also like to know if the updater is working, rather than download the full build every so often

My anti-virus really, really does not like that link. Claims it's a "known infection source".
I tried it after getting repeated failures through Source Forge and all the other links I could find for the game. Most are failing on the last block of the transfer, but a few (like the torrent) are failing much earlier. The torrent downloads 722 Mb and claims it's done, most of the other links stop at 923 Mb and never complete, and all the descriptions I'm finding are saying the file should be approx 969 Mb.
So, my question then is: Where can a newbie to the game actually get a working version, capable of being fully downloaded and installed?
-
I have to try the nightly installer two or three times before it downloads the whole file. Which browser are you using?

Take your pick. The last one I tried was with Chrome. It failed after 20 minutes, I restarted and watched it. After 2 hours it was up to 419 Mb (kept sending in bursts - send 2-3 Mb at 400mbs, then sit and do nothing for 15 minutes) so I went to bed. Just checked now and it claims to have finished both the 2.4 and the nightly. The 2.4 is 925 Mb and will not run. Just locks up that window and has to be manually killed. The "latest" build is 1.22 Gb and does exactly the same thing.
I've also tried it with Firefox and with IE (several versions of each) as well as Opera and UC - similar results, which convinces me the problem is not on my end, since the UC browser is the one on my phone and that d/l was done through 4g.
-
Hm. Have you tried waiting for any reaction from either installer after double-clicking? I only ask because, again, I have to wait up to 20 mins or so for any reaction from the installers once downloaded. Takes a while, but gets there in the end. Looks like you've d/l'd all the content, those file sizes look about right.
-
Twenty minutes? Did you really say you have to wait twenty minutes for "any reaction" from the installer? :o
That's ludicrous in my opinion. Wait 20 minutes before deciding the computer is frozen? Absurd.
Sorry, I think I'm done with this game. The reviews looked good, and I was prepared to give it a good review as well if it worked but not with that kind of requirement. Thank you for your help and your time.
-
The huge wait is not due to the installer. As it is a single huge file, your anti-virus scans the whole 1GB file which can take a good few minutes. Blame your anti-virus program or your slow cpu / hard drive.

Which is precisely why this should not be an executable.

Hello.
I downloaded 2 times the Windows version of the nightly build of v2.6-dev (to replace my "old" version of 09/2016), once in february, and a second time a few days ago. But after install, I noticed that the version was the one of the 20/01/2017. So, there may be a problem while generating the nightly builds.
This problem rises 2 more questions:
a- is it still usefull to generate a nightly? Couldn't we shift to a weekly (ex. : every monday), or even a monthly (ex.: the 10th of every month)?
b- would it be easy to have the installer show the version of the build during the installation process?
-
Hi. A few days ago, I downloaded the nightly again, and I think it is still broken. That is :
- I uninstalled the old version (20/01/2017) from my computer, keeping conf. file and savedata;
- I installed the recently downloaded version.
The timestamp of the new version was ok : 23/04/2017... But the translations I wanted to check were out to date (=did not fit the actual .po file on the main branch), and some features or bugs' correction were not here (ex. : No "feature request #4114 Nations graph colors should be consistent with Geoscape colors" commited in february).
-
Ninex fixed the buildbot a few days ago, however new build might not be published because some broken unittests... Bit more patience please.. ( Ooooor "patches are welcome!" ;) )

-
The latest nightly should beTM Okay.

Thank you! I'll test it sunday (I wait one day to be sure :) )

Installer 2.6 is unpacked using the 7-zip archiver and becomes a portable version. :)
