Hey Arthur !  ;D

We can need some help from nice & talented model designers here...

Good work. I will help with making the textures. I can bake a normalmap if you can deliver a high-poly model in obj format also.
Do you know everything you need to know to get the animations done & deliver a md2 model maybe even with different LODs & all the animations or are there questions left ?

I need the model unwrapped with a uv texture in @ least 512x512 resolution to work on that. You can post everything in this thread.

Sorry, I just checked your attachment. Will look at it in detail later. Seems to be skilled work though. What is UnionBytes ?

The Texture-Files in the Zip-File from the DL link, i will bake the textures to one after finishes the textures.

PS: DL-Link is under the Image

UnionBytes is a small "company" with me and a friend, i programming too.

Here the .anm file of the bloodspider.
That might help finding some answers.

If you deliver everything I can edit the md2 file to use your texture...
Our other md2s have no texture paths assigned, so the texture name inside the .md2 is something like '.body01' without extension !

I hope this answers your question from the irc channel.

You can always let someone else export it.

If you have perl you can use our scripts to manipulate the md2 file or you can also use a hex editor & manipulate the name with that !

Hey, your model looks nice. How did you achieve that bloom effect in Blender? Or did you paint over the render?

I paint on render it was faster^^ but you can make it with the compositor too :)

Why don't you use Blender's built in sculpting tools? What are the advantages of Sculptris?

Aha, just wanted to know if you knew a fancy new way to add bloom to a render. I didn't have much time to test the compositor yet, but once I read a nice light sabre tutorial which worked pretty good. (can't find the link atm)

nice one - but please make sure to separate the head from the body

I just checked out Sculptris and find that it's a pretty nice program. The main advantage over Blender is the automatic tesselation, so that more details are added to the mesh only where they are really needed. I guess that's one reason why Sculptris is so fast compared to Blender. Adding arms and legs to a model is also very easy because of this tesselation.

And I made a ugly, little, crawling monster for testing purposes (I hope you're disgusted ;D ):

Man, I'm totally in love with this program, although it's still in the alpha phase. I modelled this human head in about 15 minutes without reference. Of course the head is not perfect, but you'll get an impression of what you can do with this program. It's so easy I guess even a 8 year old could model something cool with it.

You know, I'd love to see that as a 2x2 BIG ugly crawling monster in UFO:AI. Not sure how it'd attack, though. Psionic, possibly.

Acid... it should spit acid.  ;D

Arthur, thanks for mentioning Sculptris. It's the program I've always been waiting for hehe.  ;D

Nice. Acid, or, may be add some implants, to electricity shot. Or poison. And may be some smashing damage.

Well, it doesn't look too terribly fast, so I don't think it would ever get within melee range of anything. Also, the tail would probably have to be bent or shortened, or it would have to be scaled down to fit in 2x2.

cool. finally a real alien monster.. well.. maybe they call it just a sweet pet. point of view ^^.

or its just an alien parasite, that likes their ufo-engine (like those in "the fifth element" in the spacecraft-tieres). just bigger. so. acid or electic damage would be great ;).

I really like it except for the transition between the brain and the skull. It's a little too neat and tidy.

But nice work!

If I were being really nitpicky, I would say that the smaller veins shouldn't cross over the top of the larger ridges. Not sure how the skinning on that program works, but if you can layer the ridges over the veins so the veins disappear "underneath" the ridges, I think it might look better.

@H-Hour: Yes, i guess you are right, at the next one i will look more after such things.

But i wanna create a new alien^^  so if does have anybody a concept art , i try to make it^^

They certainly look better than the old, existing aliens, IMO.  I'm impressed!

The new head looks great, but I think it may be a little too close to the standard grey/sectoid design for comfort. We really want to maintain a non-standard look for everything in UFO:AI.

Winter

Maybe it's because his big eyes? Maybe Arthur could make different  eyes? Also, similarity with grey will also depend how it whole body will look. If it won't be skinny, it won't look like grey.
