I had a mission on the north pole (which btw. is curious that there were so many buildings ;D ), and during alien movement the game crashed back to desktop:

did you maybe jump down from one level to another level? or was it straight walking without changing the world level?

straight walking, no level change.

is this reproducible somehow? some fixed positions where this always happens?

oh.. and there was a fix in current trunk about this issue, too - so is this reproducible in most recent trunk?

I dunno. I've noticed this bug only twice up to now.
p.s. I've already updated to R24937.
so if it happens again, I'll write here ASAP.
and if it's reproducible? well, I dunno, after those crashes I've entered those missions again, and it didn't appeared.
