map is ufo crash

I find it hard to believe that an invalid target would cause the game to crash

No if it's segfaulted for example, the ufoconsole.log is useless (it's truncated).

A problem is - for me - that CTD really means nothing, it can be a segfault (general protection failure), an assert, a Sys_Error(), or so...

Backtrace would be needed but for that people should be able to use debugger. We have an article about Debugging (http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Debugging) if you wanna try.
