Awesome.

Please note that the pod is supposed to have space for 12 soldiers and 2 UGVs.

Yea, I have add one seat, so we have two units of 6 seats ( see updated picture ).

Thanks winter,

I have make an new Pod, same measurements as that from the drop ship.
I make some renders of the pod, because I must know if the proportions are
OK, before I make more stuff in it like first aid, pipes, supplies ....

I think the chairs are too small. The size of a human as compared to the pod is shown in the image I attached.

We can't really upscale the pod. The carryall is already as big as it can be, for the base hangar tile.

Looks great! Aside from proportions issue, some comments of my own:
- Images on the monitors give an impression (for me, at least) of the craft being capable of interplanetary flight, maybe replace it with some mission briefing stuff?
- Two chairs in the front look like pilots seats, but afaik previous Heracles model showed up a separate cockpit.
- I suppose that empty space is reserved for UGVs, but shouldn't such be carried on externally mounted pods? I think that could solve the small chairs problem.

Anyway, creators have final word, until then its just my ramblings.

If the size of the human is stand up, then i think the chairs are not bad, but if you like the chairs bigger , it's no problem, I can make them a little bit bigger. the chairs are separate models so it is easy to scale them.

@Zorlen : Maybe I don't understand, but this is not a craft, its dropped by the carryall, in the front you only have the communication equipment, and detection systems in the front.
But no problem to make an other texture for it, if its simulate it can fly.

For me it's imported that I have an OK, then I can make normal, and bump maps for simulating depth for the wiring and more of that stuff on the walls ( lot of work ), before baking in the texture.

Yes, the box is a human standing up. So at most there can be 14 humans standing in a line inside the pod. Therefore, if you make the chairs so about 14 of them will fit along the wall, they'll be about right.

OK, I make them a little bit bigger, and update the shots. :)

May be it could have additional small door to side near communication post? In current way exit under fire may be complicated.

It looks great!

No, I don't think that's a good idea. It wouldn't work with the concept of the pod.

OK I have update the pod and renders, yea this looks better.

I have place player_cubes in the pod, and the chairs now have the good dimensions.

I love it (display texture notwithstanding). It's Winter's call, but as far as I'm concerned we have a winner.

OK some renders and the link to the project.

There are three projects in the file, the sources Cinema4D, MD2 files and the obj files.

The MD2 models are separate models, and you must make self the composition of the pod.

The obj files is the total pod in a single file.

The textures are baked without shadows, so you can remove things from the pod
without leaving shadows.

If you like shadows let me know.

It's a big file 26MB, because every project has its own textures, also the source textures are very big
I also use 2048X2048 for designing.

A quick question, does the interior pod come with a roof? It's not shown in the screenshots, but we'll want it on maps.

Otherwise, it's awesome. I thought maybe the boxes were in the way of the UGVs, but I checked the pod size in radiant, and I think it's not a problem.

I second BTAxis - the pod is excellent!

The only thing... Well, I know that I shouldn't be so nitpicky to others' work, but I can't help myself. These cargo crates are loose! Inside a droppable pod! :-)
Maybe add some cargo netting, like this one:
http://www.armedforces-int.com/images/companies/991/networks14.jpg
I think a net texture on the crate would sufice, no need to draw a cellular mesh over them.

However, I can handle myself with current model, 'cause it is great already, so feel free to disregard my suggestion.

They're just bins bolted to the floor. No need to overthink it.

Yes It has a roof, the first render is the pod with the roof, the roof is a separate model.

It's called pot_top.md2 in the md2 directory.

if the boxes are in the way you place them elsewhere or remove them ( the models are separate ).

For your information, the model has been added to the SVN.

sitters, it would be very cool if you could do the normalmaps, too - they are not yet used (currently only for map textures) but i'm working on it

I have here the normals I used for baking the textures, they are simple one's for add some detail

http://www.md2.sitters-electronics.nl/models/Normals1.rar.

For the vending machine i make an new one, because this is a very old model with much to low texture resolution for making a nice look and normal map.

sitters, it'd be great if you could help us get the rest of the aircraft/UFO models done and dusted. Particularly we need a reworked or new Hyperion model and texture, and once that's done the Starchaser interceptor and Raptor dropship are high priorities. After that, the Gunboat UFO is our #1 priority for the aliens.

Here is the wiki aircraft page: http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Aircraft
The Hyperion page itself has a wee bit more info on it. Essentially what we need out of it is a large interceptor/dropship hybrid that carries weapons (1 large hardpoint) but also troops (although possibly not UGVs). Something that looks capable of both dogfighting and deploying ground forces although not necessarily fantastic at doing it.

We have a preliminary model for the Hyperion which you can find in this file: http://crossedswords.co.nr/downloads/UFOAI/WinterUntexedModels.zip

It's the one called 'airthing'.

Winter

Keep in mind though that the dropships can only have limited X and Y dimensions. The reason is that the map tile we use to place dropships is only so big. So keep this in mind for the Raptor. It can be a bit bigger than the Herakles pod without problems, just don't go overboard.

OK, start with the Hyperion.

Nice model, not have to do much about it ( UV, texture and optimize ).

Nice ones! Just one thought about the vending machine: The logos are recognizeable. Won't we have trademark problems about them?

No Problem, it's an existing machine, same as a model of an existing car.
when you replace the trademark, then you can have an problem.

Willem

Edit : here it's no problem, they only hide logo's for not giving free advertising.
Maybe when you have a 100 million dollar game, they ask royalties for using
        the design as reference.

why should we have a problem when we remove the logos? i'm no lawyer... can someone enlighten me? ;)

willem - if there is a problem with the logos, i will replace them as soon as i hear about it - no extra work for you - big thanks for the model (and the normalmap ;) )

This trademark & copyright thing is confusing ???

Any law majors here that can clarify?
