Title: Text Strangeness?
Post by: MonkeyHead on August 10, 2013, 07:39:44 pm
Recently downloaded the 2.5 dev version (10th August build), and have some strangeness going on with text input. Alphanumeric keys act as expected, but shift outputs an "a"-like symbol, Fn and Ctrl do similar, and arrow keys output captal letters as do the function keys and pgup/dn. This makes it hard to name bases and edit names. Is this known, reproducible by others or is there a workaround? I do play on a laptop (knowing that thier keyboards are often non-standard) but have not had this issue with previous builds.

Every long once-in-a-while I find my ESC key stops working properly. When this happens, I (Windows 7 user) delete /APP_DATA/ufoai/2.5-dev/keys.cfg. Then I reload the game and it seems to work alright. Maybe try that?

(keys.cfg is in the same folder where your ufoconsole.log and save files are stored)

Tried it, no joy. As I am not sure whats causing this, I have no idea if this is a wider issue or one only I am having - this only started happening with todays build which is suspicious.

Maybe related to the nightly using SDL2 now (http://ufoai.org/wiki/News#SDL2)?

Hmm. So is this a problem with my laptop not liking SDL2 or an issue in the game code?

Hmmm... I don't have SDL2 installed ATM (linux), so I can't test, you should probably make a report in our tracker.

Not for the first time, I have attampted to create an account on the bug tracker and run into wierdness where I cannot properly verify an account, passwords dont work, and an account reset email is apparently forbidden and I need to contact an administrator (which is hard without a working butracker account).

I've activated your account, MonkeyHead. You should be able to login with the password you used to sign up.

(I thought we fixed the registration problems with the bug tracker, but I guess there are still some issues lingering.)

Thank you, will go try and post a bug report. I shall also see if I can track down a build from before the change to SDL2 on the 8th to try and confirm the switch as the cause of the error.

Thanks for reporting - I've just fixed some text input handling. Please retry with the next nightly build and let us know whether it works again for you. Thanks a lot.

Just downloaded and installed the Aug 13th nightly build. The isse has changed. Text input now is almost correct regarding correct sybols and keystrokes, apart from the fact that after each and every letter, number and symbol the game now adds a "H" symbol. I shall go and post this back on the bug tracker.

No joy on fixing this second issue yet? I know it seems like a minor thing, but for someone with familiartiy with the game code and SDL2 (which tbh sure is not me) it sounds like low hanging fruit...
