Title: Cheat in soldier stats
Post by: athspk on December 20, 2012, 11:58:28 am
Good Evening guys.
I would like to raise some of my soldiers stats (Speed, accuracy) by around 5 to 10 points.
The first place i went to look was my savedgame file, but i found nothing familiar there.

Plese point me to the right direction.

ver. 2.3.1
Win32

The right direction is: Not cheating. Thanks!

I don't want to spoil my game by playing it in "God" mode.
Just want a small advantage.

Hi athspk,

AFAIK there‘s no easy way to modify savegames.
Choosing a lower level of difficulty might be a better decision.

However it‘s quite simple to modify the stats of new recruits.
Search for for „How can I make my new recruits have better stats?“ in the „UFO scripting: guide“  within the
„User modifications“ sub-forum (it‘s sticky).

Regards
Magniff

Is there a way to level up units without cheating? I just finished a full campaign and my best troops (2 survived) had only 50-55 mind and 35 accuracy and 40/45 weapon skill, is there a way to get better stats gains by playing the game a different style?

A lot of the stats gains and their effects are not really worked out very well. This is something I hope we can unify and improve in the future.

Is the information in the wiki/help pages still accurate for the weapons/skills? I have been reading over them and they don't agree with what I've seen at all in 2.5 (I could just be wrong). Also I assume that when a skill says something like "requires 4 hits to acquire 1 skill point" it means 4 separate attacks? Otherwise using a machine gun/assault rifle at close range would give good skill gains?

DarkRain recently updated this page (http://ufoai.org/wiki/Skills/Improvement/v2.5). As far as I know, nothing else will be up-to-date. The wiki is a giant pile of old information and there's no reliable way to know what is still accurate, except to dive into the code and check it yourself.

Very interesting. Mostly what I expected but noting how sniping affects accuracy and the exact ratios for speed gain is useful. This means a sniper/explosives character sound like a good plan since I wind up needing to build up both accuracy and strength for those and sniping is good for accuracy and explosives is good for strength.

Only surprise is that I thought suffering hits affected hit points.
