when I started a game and chose difficulty, I noticed it said "race: Human". i know you can play as the aliens in skirmish, but I think it would be pretty nice to also have the option to completely switch things around.
what im requesting is: could there posibly be a way to choose which race you want to play.
wether you defend or attack is some thing you can think of too.
thank you for reading.

The answer is NO.
We would like to make it, but it's so much work it won't happen for many years Is suppose! The current gameplay and code is not symmetric, only human side is developed. Aliens do their stuff, but nothing is controllable on their side.

I'd been working on looking at the coding to see about turning it into something Jagged Alliance like on a global scale. Of course, that's not easy either.
-
I always wonder why somebody who wants to play a game like JA doesn´t just play JA.
-
Because after a while, even with 1.13, JA (2, of course) gets kind of...boring. At least on the strategic side.
But tactical is, quite frankly, unmatched. Only a pity you can't control vehicles or put up some light fortifications.
-
I would like to play JA in modern version. ;)
-
Well, there's Back in Action which is pretty much a shinier (reportedly, shittier), less destructible version of 2.
And the newest version of 1.13 was released in December, if I remember correctly.
-
I have played JA:BIA. Very buggy. And it's just bad clone of JA - looks similar, but many things missing.
-
JA:BIA is actually not bad... And yes, ive played JA since the first. ;)
-
JA:BIA is actually not bad...
I'm not saying it's bad. But it's very easy (played on normal). And buggy ;) Well, after several patches it became something playable.
It's not normal, when one soldier with an axe clears all map (hospital) in "hack and slash"-style. Just heal him sometime and do not force to run through wide open areas ;D
What can two snipers do? Just clear half of map (airport near capital) of any enemy presence.
How you kill tank? One soldier runs before it in circles and shouts, other shoots rocket :D
How you can disarm mine without sapper? Only by stepping on it. >:( You can shoot it, throw grenades as much as you want but it will ignore it all. :o (by the way, where are proximity grenades? Preferably for GL?)

In AI?
In developement.

Is there an alien campaign in JA? or all this thing is out of topic?
-
Have we ever had a thread stay on topic in this forum?
-
Staying on topic is kind of overrated. Especially when the original question is answered.
Hell, someone might even think of something new to stick into the game in one of these talks.
-
Actually, I've never played JA. But I did play Fallout Tactics, and still do. I'd love to be able to play it in a more 3D manner.
-
Somebody is playing Fallout Tactics? Why? :o
I've played it and even reached happy end, but that is not a game i would recommend to anybody.
-
Because it's awesome. That's why I'm playing it. I love the tactical possibilities. Snipers on the second floor shooting across a road at enemies that pop up to shoot at you? Rocket launchers, shot through windows to deal with ambushes. Mines placed in patrol routes, so patrolling enemies don't become a bother, they just become a splatter.
Add up targeted shots, such as to the eyes and appendages. It makes the game feel more fun and functional. I can deal with mutants by shooting their arms and breaking them, so they can't fire at me. Or legs so they're slower and can't chase me as easily.

Hate to drag the thread back on topic ;) Am new, recently discovered this game and I love it :D Was screwing with the campaign.ufo file cause I wanted to modify the starting cash on a campaign to try an idea out and notice there is an alien campaign there thats commented out.
Will this campaign play if I take the comment tags off?? Or will it crash my game?
-
There is no support for alien campaigns.
-
Thats a bloody shame :(
So whats that bit in the .ufo file for?
-
it's there because there was an alien campaign once. but this was limited to a different texture for the geoscape and different default teams. the base management and aircraft are all the humans. this would need a lot of work - it's basically a new campaign.
keep in mind, our goal is to provide a scriptable engine where you are able to do this at some point. but we are not yet there.
-
So it was kinda of the last bit of legacy from X-Com The Two Sides? I was really hoping to see an alien campaign too :P That was one of the coolest ideas Ive seen in any of the Xcom remakes or spinoffs.
THANKS for the info! And rapid responses!! :D Again I am lovin this game so far!!
-
Oh i never knew we had a alien campaing, but interesting to know.
Again I am lovin this game so far!!
Always a pleasure to read something like that. :)
