Hello,
I have reussi to launch ufoai with the precise details finding in
this forum, maintaining the play is lauching, but I cannot practically
move the mouse! :(
An idea :idea:
Thank you
Tremens
:wink:

If the mouse is moving really slow, you can try setting "Options"->"Texture resolution cap" down a bit (you need to restart UFO:AI for it to work as far as i know)

linux? windows?
under linux you can try
./ufo +set vid_ref sdl

Good evening,
I did it, at the beginning my mouse moves normally then after it block
myself and sporadic move t, I can't make more nothing
I am obliged to make a reset to start again my PC

Hi,
My problem is the same.
When I launch the game, for a second or two, mouse moves as it should, and after a moment it slows down drasticaly.
My config is:
ufo.ai_0.12beta1-multilanguage.run
on
Debian 3.1 Sarge (but almost Etch), 2.6.8-2-k7 kernel
the game is running in 800x600 resolution and texture resolution is set to "high".
Hardware: Athlon 2500 + 512MB(266MHz) + GF2MX - so i guess it's not a hardware problem ;)
I use xorg and nvidia drivers - if it matters.
please help!
:?
-
The Geforce2MX? try to enable texture compression and set the texture resolution a little bit lower
and please let me know whether you have problems at a 1024x768 resolution
-
no, it's not that.
With configuration 800x600, Texture compression = "ON" and texture resolution = "Medium", i have about 5 seconds of good working mouse and after that it goes 'bout 0,7 FPS.
Theres one more strange thing about the mouse: when it slows down, the cursor doesn't want to go to right side of the screen - for example in OPTIONS(Video) menu I can't point on arrows to change anything 'cause cursor stops about 100 pixels from right side of the screen.
Only a guess: isn't it something with videocard memory?
It reminds me problems with some card and some 3d Windows games.
Maybe i'll try on GF3 TI200 but i don't know if i'll have a time for that today.
sorry for my english - i'm polish and just got up from bed ;)
-
Does running in windowed mode with +set vid_grabmouse 0 +set vid_fullscreen 0 solve your mouse problem?
-
no, it doesn't. It takes more time ('bout 15 secs) untill mouse slows down.
-
try to set in_dgamouse to 1
start ufo via:
./ufo +set in_dgamouse 1
-
there is a new version in svn which maybe fixes some mouseproblems - please report any problems
-
try to set in_dgamouse to 1
start ufo via:
./ufo +set in_dgamouse 1
nope. this isn't it.
I ve updated libxxf86dgal library - no changes
I've commented <Option "omit xfree86-dga"> line in xorg.conf - no changes
I'll try on other VideoCard.
maybe it's some lack of 3d features in GF2MX
-
BTW: could you change "mouve" in this topic's subject? :mrgreen:
-
i tried on GF3TI200 - still the same, but:
- it took more time before the mouse started to act strange. (30 sec or even more)
- now i'm sure that after this "mouse crash" i can only point in places within 640x480 zone.
I'll look around for some fresh nvidia drivers - if it won't work, i'll download the newest version of UFO from svn and try again.
One more thing about the time before crash - in my opinion it may be related to ammount of VideoCard memory avaliable. But it's only a guess.
-
Just tried with the newest nvidia drivers and it's even worse - "mouse crash" is almost immidiate and "pointing zone" is reduced to about 50x50 pixels :(
I'll download the newest ufo version from svn - it's my only hope :?
If there is anyone who succeed running UFO:AI on Debian - please contact me
-
i am running and developing ufo:ai under debian. but try the newest svn and then we can talk about that.
and don´t forget to install the x-extensions for vidmode and dga (+dev)
-
ok, i´ve changed quite a lot mouse related things in svn - please give feedback
-
I don't have much time now so i guess i'll try the svn version this weekend.
Is there any compiling manual for svn version?
-
> Is there any compiling manual for svn version?
Yes:
http://ufo.myexp.de/wiki/index.php/Compile_for_Linux#Compile
(but the Debian desctiption at the bottom of that seems more comprehensive).
-
Hallo everybody,
I am new here so first greetings to everybody and a big thanks to all the hard working people making a great game.
I have this very slow mouse problem too. Tried all the solutions offered here upgraded to the newest version. Still the same problem.
Are there more things I can try to make it run.
I am running the svn version on ubuntu 6.06

You seem to have software renderer enabled (or not, I'm not sure). For me this reads:
> GL_VENDOR: NVIDIA Corporation
Do you have not only the Nvidia drivers installed but also their -dev portions and the xlibmesa***-dev packages removed? Then recompile...
BTW, should I have anything about dga in my log when compile with DGA and then run with +set in_dgamouse 1?
P.S. Have all of you uncommented the "omit" option in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (or /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 if you have an old distro)? Like that:
#SubSection "extmod"
#Option "omit xfree86-dga"
#EndSubSection
and make sure to have
Load "extmod"
somewhere in the file...
Oh, and there is one more tip from an old forum:
Manually edited config.cfg to:
- set in_mouse "0"
- set in_dgamouse "1"
(Unfortunately, for me in fullscreen mode, none of this works. So I'm stuck with glx with no DGA in Makefile (only then it says "...XF86DGA is not compiled in", so the makefile option really works for me, but mouse does not work with DGA).)
-
Hi,
I've the same problem, but when I tried set
Load "extmod"
into my xorg.conf, something changed - now mouse can move continuously but only horizontally on top of screen, cannot move vertically....
Any idea, pls?
Thanks for reply

Have you tried every trick in the thread and on the wiki? (In particular both sdl and glx renderers and DGA...) Have you tried SVN trunk?
-
Hi,
so I've got already figured out.
Bandobras: You have had true, there was my mistake, 'cause I had "onfig.cfg" instead of "config.cfg", and it was in bad location. I run Gentoo and this build is from stable tree, which means that there is something in /usr/games/ and something in /usr/share/games/ufo-ai/base/ and I had the "onfig.cfg" in /usr/share/games/ufo-ai/ instead "config.cfg" in ~/base/. So, in a nutshell it's fixed (for Gentoo) in a few steps:
1) in /etc/X11/xorg.conf add in Section "Module" >>
#subsection "extmod"
#Option "omit xfree-dga"
#EndSubSection
Load "extmod"
2) create file config.cfg in
/etc/share/games/ufo-ai/base/ with lines >>
set in_mouse "0"
set in_dgamouse "1"
that's all. I don't know why, but portage didn't create file config.cfg, and doesn't work ./ufo (in any location including /home/**user**.
Thanks to all for assistance and sorry for my english, I'm from Czech Republic..

Uh, I must send some accessary:
From my previous tests I had in my /usr/share/games/ufo-ai/base/default.cfg some commented lines:
#set in_mouse "0"
#set in_dgamouse "1"
this is because it doesn't work. So, when I removed this lines (due to cleaning), mouse going back on top of screen and problem was back. So I sended this strange lines again back in default.cfg and it's again work fine. I don't know, what this means, but in thi time I have:
1)
/usr/share/games/ufo-ai/base/default.cfg >>
//
// DEFAULT CVARS
//
set vid_ref glx
set gl_driver libGL.so
set gl_mode 6
set vid_fullscreen 0
set crosshair 1
#set in_mouse "0"
#set in_dgamouse "1"
//----------------------------------------------
//
// INIT STUFF
//
alias init "mn_main main;mn_sequence sequence;mn_push main"
//
// newgame command
//
alias newgame " killserver ; maxclients 1"
//
// quake2 +set dedicated 1
// will run this command if no other +map is included
//
alias dedicated_start "map base1"
2)
/usr/share/games/ufo-ai/base/config.cfg >>
set in_mouse "0"
set in_dgamouse "1"
ant now it's work perfectly. If I'll remove #set in_mouse "0" and #set in_dgamouse "1" from default.cfg, problem is back...
why?
can anyone cast light on this?
thanks for all...
-
uff, I'm sorry for this, but:
what I post previously, it's not true. The problem is accidental, once time mouse work fine, next time doesn't. I don't know... maybe it's fixed, when I try ./ufo in /usr/share/games/ufo-ai/ and then ufo-ai instead of just ufo-ai...
I apologize, again..
-
Congratulations for you patience. For the mouse now runs perfectly both in glx and sdl, thanks to some recent mattn fixes in SVN trunk. Upgrade and you should be fine...
