^Subject.
Because I noticed I could just reload the last save if I lose one or more troops in one auto mission.

No. Several missiontypes are not auto-playable.

Thanks!
Are there penalties/disadvantages in just clicking "Auto Mission" for those mission types that allow the option?

Maybe less experience points to gain.
/Automission still needs a bit love IMHO./

Ah. Thanks.
It also is a complete mystery to me --- results are very randomized methinks.

Yeah, we couldn't finish it yet.

Ah. Thanks for the heads-up. Has it been tweaked in 2.4? (Forgive the incessant questioning; it has been ages that I've wanted to finish this game and make a review of the current build. Will provide readers with tidbits of what to expect in 2.4 once it gets released as a stable build.)

It's been rewritten since 2.3 but I would still like to tweak it here or there.

i wonder if the apparent aura secrecy around automissions is just my personal impression caused by not reading the forum enough, etc.
i have only read that availability of the automission option depends on the map being special in some unknown way.
what maps are special and what determines the results?
just my first thought would be that if player has completed (a few) recent mission(s) without losses, there would be the "free mission" option (= automission), which would complete the mission as victorious (without need to reload, and with no mysterious penalties to skills and loot, etc.) if the player does not feel like doing it manually (= the game is being nice to the player who has dominated some recent missions and does not put the player through the tedium of clicking to produce the same result).
but maybe i got it all wrong, and there is some deeper philosophy behind the automissions.

I've noticed that you can't gather as much items in auto missions than in missions where you've manually completed.

If you play 2.3.x, you won't get any items or experience. In 2.4-dev alien items generated in the same way for auto and manual missions, so what you noticed is totally random and irrelevant.

"2.4-dev alien items generated in the same way for auto and manual missions" --- so auto missions are more viable in 2.4? Strange design direction, that.

There was a placeholder in 2.3. Now automissions is more «realistic».
