Probably not what you were hoping for, but here's a proposal for a kind of mini-campaign (http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Gameplay_Proposals/Game_Mode/Squad_Commander_Campaign) that could be played in coop. Don't expect much on it in the next couple versions though.
