I just got a Terror mission on the Commonwealth of Oceania at Rockhampton. However, everytime I try to land my troops and go into tactical mode, I get the map "eaglenest" loading up and then it kicks me back to geoscape mode.
Anyone else have this problem? Windows vista 32 bit, ufoai 2.3 version.

Hello,
i've noticed exactly same issue. When the Firebird with 8-person team reached the "eaglenest" map, game crashes back to the strategic (globe) view. The in-game console says something like: "unable to load character x" (x=certain number, different everytime) and also the spawn points (or spawn places) error is mentioned here.
With 7-person team, everything works fine - map is loaded and playable.
I'm playing 2.3 stable version, downoaded from sourceforge.net

please attach the ufoconsole.log so we see the exact error message

I confirm the same problem. But I don't have any logs, at least yet. I will try to get one.

i'm sorry, my logfile was overwriten with new one, during next game i've played today. But here i have screenshot from the console, i'm hoping it will help somehow:

What? No file-problem here.
It's a bit more complex. It is two bugs at least:
1. The map has not enough spawnpoints so the game cannot add character to battlefield
2. The code seems not handling this correctly: still refers to the character who is not in the game
3. Sometimes it even SEGFAULTs due to point 2.

if someone could catch a backtrace from this bug... this is not reproducible in skirmish

Sorry for the necromancy, but I haven't seen a solution for this.
Tried bringing 7 soldiers to the mission, instead of 8, and it worked fine.
Hope it gets solved for the next release.

If this is still a problem in 2.3.1 then please open a bug ticket on the bugtracker. Otherwise this report will get lost.

Eh, pardon my ignorance, but I don't know how to do that. Could someone do it?

The firebird had 9 info_human_starts but only 7 info_player_starts. I added another info_player_start, but don't think this could be the problem if faced during the campaign.
I noticed this map has extra spawn points. That wouldn't cause a problem would it? Is it looking for a 9th soldier for the info_human_start?

no, you can place as many as you like - but at least 8
