Hello,
Why i was reading this topic http://ufoai.ninex.info/forum/index.php?topic=4674.135 i've noticed that soldiers and aliens are quite low poly. They don't look to good.
Why is that? Because you don't have better models or because you don't accept models with more polys?
If it's second case i think that it should be raised. I understand that it can require more computer power, but probably ufo: ai won't be finished in couple of years, so people will have time to upgrade ;)

It's the former, Destructavator (sorry if misspelled) has been making a new model and animation set for soldiers. He needs to make/intergrare all the armors seperately though, so it takes time.

we just don't have higher poly models - we have level-of-details support for our meshes, so very close looks could use higher poly models

Do you think that you guys may every put this game on a new engine and start from scratch or make a new game? That was lodged in my mind for a while

no

Currently much is happening regarding the animated mesh models also... ;)
IMHO it would be nice to have additional LOD models, but is not even really necessary, because our models will look much better after...
1.) we have enabled full glowmap support also for animated meshes
2.) we have enabled normalmap support for meshes also (this will add tons of detail to every mesh model we have, I cannot even imagine now, how great our Ortnoks will look for example with their (already finished) normalmaps & proper lightning applied ;D
3.) we have quadrupled the pixels of many of the textures for the aliens for example to bring them all to the same standard, like Ortnoks in light & medium armor already have (from the texture resolution side)...
But finishing all these tasks successfully could take some time...
